Has anyone successfully used an agent to renew a driving license in Thailand?

Agents' online ads are attractive--promising to do it all for a pittance, but then I saw several

disgruntled posters calling them "scams" and "thieves."

Would love to avoid having to obtain the docs, driving to the Land Office, taking the test, etc.,

but would also like to avoid being ripped off.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Why on Earth would you even think of using an agent? It's a simple, straight forward procedure.

And by the way, I have read that there are indeed scammers out there which would result in you being issued a fake licence.

Even the DLT issue warnings about that.

The way not to get ripped off  is to obtain the docs, drive to the Land Office, take the test, etc.

Yup, roll up to the office to get the requirements, make a booking ( if required ), go home, do the online video stuff and retain the proof ( qr code or snapshot of result ).

Back to the office with the docs, do the tests, get your photo taken and pick up the license.

Another 6 years of stress free driving on Thai highways and byways 😏

Poster wrote highways.

Motorways? If you don't mind to be undertaken and cut in front at 150 km/h, yes then no problem.

For the rest: stress free if no Thais on the road.

Not an option.

Also you need to obtain a COR and a medical.

Read some threads a TDL renewal and proceed accordingly.

Where are you located.

Which transport office.

@Paul Dee

(wrote simultaneously to previous post 😄)

Where do you live?

There are serious agents that just do "holding hands".

Help to collect documents, make appointment, drive you to the DLT and lead you through if you are afraid of language barrier.

Any agent that tells you no visit to office, no physical test etc. is to be avoided.

Illegal, fake stuff whatever.

Agents in Pattaya e.g. will bring you to Rayong where it's not that crowded and no long waiting for appointment.

6 years if licence has expired, 5 years from next birthday, not aimed at you

If you do not present yourself in person, you are not getting a driver's licence. These guys are printing fakes, and you might as well light your money on fire.

Can you get a first time driver's licence in your home country by not showing up at the issuing office? (Not renewing an existing licence like some jurisdictions allow).

Yes, renewing a few days after my birthday ( previous license expiry ) gives me 6 years ( - a few days ).

I always used to do the renewals myself, but my last renewal 5+ years ago was far from stress free (Pattaya/Banglamung office). Had to go twice and spent hours waiting in line for each step of the process.

So this time (3 months ago) I used an agent that was recommended by a friend. Completely stress free experience. In and out of the Rayong office in under an hour.

Just brought my passport and old DLs. Didn't even have to get the medical certificate nor the certificate of residency. Highly recommended if you hate waiting and dealing with bored government officials.

I'm going to do mine in September, and one day after my birthday. As my visa status (among other things) have changed since last time, I've decided to hire an agent that was recommended to me. So far, their instructions have been good and the fee incudes a medical certificate, their presence during the process and the licence fee. I need to do the online training the week before. I'll post back here afterwards with an update.

Can you let me have the agent's details, please.  Thanks.
