In Chachoengsao province, a Thai father has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his young daughter with a bamboo stick after she was too frightened to use the bathroom at night due to a fear of ghosts.

The incident came to light on June 18 when a teacher visited the family's home and reported the situation to local officials, including Pratchaya Pimpapan, the district chief of Sanam Chai Khet, and Suraphon Borisai, director of Baan Sung Charoen School.

Officials, along with the local social development office and ISOC, quickly intervened to assist the young girl, Earn, a second-grader.

Her father, Jamnan, was reportedly drunk and emotionally unstable during the incident at their home in the Tha Kradan subdistrict. Police removed Earn from the unsafe environment and arrested Jamnan, despite difficulties in communication due to his intoxication.

Professionals comforted Earn, who disclosed that her father had beaten her. Despite her ordeal, she showed no anger, attributing her father's actions to her own fear and disobedience.

Ananya, Earn's aunt, revealed that Jamnan has a longstanding alcohol issue and tends to become violent under its influence. During the incident, Ananya intervened, resulting in a violent altercation where she was injured while preventing Jamnan from grabbing a knife.

Earn's mother, Sukanya, expressed deep concern and has urged her husband to leave the family due to his violent tendencies. Although not involved with drugs, his alcoholism remains a persistent problem. Sukanya is relieved by the recent intervention and is resolute in her decision not to reconcile with him.

Authorities confirmed that Earn will now live with her mother and maternal relatives, while her father will relocate. Legal action is being pursued against him by the police.

Alcohol needs to stop "being normalized" in society. Way too many people get violent when drinking and can't think straight and act stupid and dangerous.
