Report Thai Health Minister Launches Raids on Cannabis Shops Over Cannabis-Infused Sweets

Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin spearheaded a surprise raid on 20 cannabis shops in Bangkok yesterday. The operation discovered illicit sales of jelly and chocolates infused with unapproved cannabis, following a directive from Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to halt illegal drug distribution.

 

During the inspection, two shops in Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 were caught selling cannabis-infused products without FDA approval. The shops, Buddha’s Kush Street and Cannabis X, are now under scrutiny.

 

Way2weed (W2W) failed to provide a proper operations report, resulting in a temporary suspension of their licence for seven days.

 

Authorities are testing these products to ensure the THC content doesn’t exceed the legal limit of 0.2%. If the products do surpass this threshold, further charges will be pursued.

 

Since the decriminalisation of marijuana last year, regulations require shops to report client use to control youth exposure to drugs.

This enforcement aligns with efforts to combat the distribution of psychotropic substances such as Rohypnol and Kratom leaves.

 

Although some speculate about political motivations behind the raids, Minister Somsak affirmed that the actions are unrelated to the recent political reshuffle.

 

Cannabis-related enterprises have had to navigate legal challenges since Thailand loosened restrictions. Any violation of these regulations could mean severe repercussions for businesses in the sector.

 

The situation remains under observation as authorities continue to enforce compliance with the law to ensure public safety and uphold health standards.

Did they also check the jars on the counter to make sure they conformed to the legal limit?

Will this exercise be repeated across the many thousands of shops (sorry medical dispensaries) in the country?

Kratom is already legal isn't it?

How the f**k did rohypnol get mixed up in this daft statement? I've never heard it mentioned it in connection with Thailand before. Semi-comotose women are available for less than the cost of this noxious substance.

Uphold the law, I thought a law was recently passed where they were only allowed to sell medicinal cannabis with a doctors script or did Anutin manage to have that overturned??

The current law is very different for extracts that would be in edibles  .2 percent would mean no high at all. Only people looking for just cbd would buy that. They're actually enforcing the current law.

I just calculated, an average gummy with 3 gram and the legal 0.2% THC contains 6 mg THC. Enough to feel an effect already, even you just eat one piece. Shops selling edibles over that limit are just dumb IMO.
