Some years ago (2019) I had a badly blocked ear in Pattaya and a doctor prescribed (sold) me Sodium Bicarbonate ear drops to clear wax. Small bottle (eough for at least 20 applications) was 170 Baht.

I still use them to this day - I bought a supply back to UK with me.

Show this to a pharmacist

It is plain baking soda, so you can also buy in supermarket and make your own solution.

I saw on internet it is indeed used for cleaning ears.

A teaspoon in 118 ml

And then the earwax is softened and you still have to get it out then.

But thanks for showing.

You're welcome.

My approach is to  apply the drops at night, put cotton wool in the ear and sleep on the other side so that gravity makes the drops seep into the ear. That avoids poking foreign objects towards the very  delicate ear drum.

I found that as the drops feed through, you can feel them in your throat which is odd but not unpleasant. Considering "ENT" that makes sense - it is not an instant procedure though - you might need to repeat over a couple of nights.

Eventually it clears itself - you can always tug on the earlobe and / or blow your nose  to  assist the process. This can help too

I think, as your eardrum, a membrane, is letting through some of the soda suspension and you ll notice it finally in your throat. It will be transported through Eustachian tube.

Maybe then time is too long, as they say 5-10 minutes. 2-3 times /day and tops 5 days in a row.

After that they recommend to see doctor.

I have no clue, not a doctor, if it would have negative effect on what is behind the eardrum. There are some delicate components maybe they dont like and break down? That could be logical.

The substance, sodium , normal wise shouldnt be there, it is only to make the grease smooth.

Take care VBF.

Thanks - I'm not a doctor either but my procedure above worked so all's well. 👍

is that ear water pump similar to water picks for teeth?

also, you mention suction, that was probably a water syringe? using a vacuum is much better

the ear water pump is a electric pump with a nozzle

the suction is a fancy machine, again with a nozzle, that sucks like a vacuum, and you hear the wax being extracted.  but the nozzle was kind of sharp, and hurt quite a lot for me

May I advise you to use clean drinking water in any case.
A few months ago I thought it was no big deal to use water from the tap, resulting in a severe middle ear infection.
Regarding that electric water pump from Lazada, I am curious about that.

i use boiled water from the kettle

the pump box has the pic of a black guy using it on the box.  about 700 baht IIRC

The stuff they use at some clinics is:

Hydrogen peroxide

Low concentration, 3%.

Makes that bubbling sound while it works in your ear.

I think I will give it a try when I experience clogged ear another time.

Have used that more than once but my experiences have been disappointing, for some reason the liquid does not get deep enough it does not completely dissolve the earwax. Have sometimes had it in an ear for 10 minutes with no positive results.

Maybe the stuff over the counter is not as strong as what they use at the clinics?

Of course not trying anything stronger at home!
