Crime Finnish Fugitive Wanted for Murder & Drug Trafficking Captured in Hua Hin

A Finnish national wanted by INTERPOL for serious crimes including murder and large-scale drug trafficking has been apprehended, following a covert operation by immigration police.

 

On the afternoon of 24 June, at approximately 13:30, Police Major General Chairit Anurith, Commander of Immigration Division 3, led a special operation to arrest Mr. Daniel Reijo Karvonen, a 42-year-old fugitive subject to a Red Notice issued by INTERPOL. Karvonen is wanted by Norwegian authorities in connection with three major criminal cases, including a brutal murder and international narcotics trafficking.

 

Acting on intelligence gathered over a sustained surveillance campaign, police identified Karvonen’s residence in a condominium complex in Hua Hin. Officers disguised themselves as fitness trainers and mingled with other gym users to confirm his identity. Once his presence was verified, they moved in and detained him without incident.

 

Investigations revealed that Karvonen had fled to Thailand after being implicated in the November 2024 murder of a man in Kongsvinger, Norway. Further charges allege that Karvonen was manufacturing and distributing illegal narcotics in the same region and was a key figure in a transnational smuggling operation that transported drugs in vehicles across the Swedish-Norwegian border.

 

Police Major General Chairit described Karvonen as a “dangerous criminal” and noted that the Norwegian authorities have been seeking his extradition for some time. He added that the operation followed directives from Thailand’s national police chief and is part of a wider government initiative to eliminate transnational crime and prevent foreign fugitives from using Thailand as a safe haven.

 

“This arrest is a clear signal that Thailand will not tolerate foreign criminals who threaten the peace and security of our society,” said Chairit. “We are committed to upholding the law and safeguarding the country’s image and stability.”

 

Mr. Karvonen is currently in police custody pending extradition proceedings.

lol, that's not going to happen, for a start they say he murdered someone in Norway, if true then he's going down for a long time in one of the most luxurious prisons in the world based on what I've read

Yes, the Thai police are good at catching foreign criminals in Thailand. 
Other countries not so much.

Thus, a question - how did he get into Thailand?  Did he legally enter Thailand, if so why was he not detained at the point of entry?
