Many who voted for Pheu Thai will no longer with such a huge betrayal of their futures - the destruction of many dreams of many young Thai entrepreneurs.   Bhumjaithai will benefit massively, as will the Progressive Party. Will put Pheu Thai into a death spiral with collapsing votes.  The political stupidity is spectacular.

Pheu  Thai won the election and during campaigning promised to criminalize the cannabis again. So why do you think the majority of Thais want this?

Won the election - No - they cobbled together a majority in order to gain control of Parliament so are the legitimate government of Thailand - how a parliamentary system works.  The Progressive party won the vote in terms of a majority, Pheu Thai had less.

... and on top of that, the conservatives certainly are assessing whether to use the nicely timed opportunity to use the upcoming court verdicts to close the Shin chapter in Thai politics. Almost looks like the conservatives made the deal with Taksin to form the govt and let him come back to Thailand to wait him to make a small side step to walk to a trap - a side step her daughter nicely did - though I would guess they never imagined to see a blunder like this to open the opportunity. To survive, he would need to pull some new aces from his sleeve.

But entertaining the whole show is for foreigners - in all of its sadness for the country.

The great majority of Thai's want PT out. I hope you realize this. They want the Shinawatra family and PT out and gone.

They did not win the election they lost big time to the Move Forward  party, but the junta installed senate stole the election and banned the winner.

You are right, still even

text from randomly source chosen out of many. Move Forward was also against the legalization of cannabis and the after effect of the legalization showed how bad it was to do so. The majority of Thais do not want to have free ganja in Thailand, like how everything developed after legalization. It’s been a shame literally said to see have bad it went, even the pro cannabis here do not reckoning the same picture as many others.

Move Forward is hoping to form a coalition with other opposition parties including the Pheu Thai Party, which, responding to worries about health and abuse by youngsters, made a campaign promise to ban the recreational use of marijuana.

Move Forward and its allies published their political agenda this week that includes a proposal to “reclassify marijuana as a controlled substance... with new laws regulating and supporting its beneficial uses”.

Fair enough, Pheu Thai managed to make the coalition to have the prime minister,  but, Move Forward are not playing for the pro cannabis either.

That’s good

Idiots.  That is the most generous description I can give of this current regime and their knee-jerk reaction to cannabis sales. They are running people out of business at a time when their economy is still suffering.

Thaiger And Asean now are owned by the same group, seems like Asean Now is the political side and Thaiger is more domestic news

Lots of businesses about to go bust over this new regulation this is the problem with Thailand these people who change the laws cannot get their brains to work properly they fail to work out the solutions before implementing the changes and it’s not just weed it’s visa issues which can be very problematic as they fail to see the possible problems !

Maybe cannabis shops could eventually become part of pharmacies as a separate section. Then you have your pharmacist on board.

They didn’t win the election Move Forward had the highest number of votes but this could not be allowed and the dark forces of the dinosaurs collectively got together to make sure it did not happen !

Thailand's health ministry has postponed the enforcement of new cannabis regulations by 30–60 days, responding to public concern and allowing more time for adaptation

Is that a half back-flip ?

They are going to include traditional Thai medical practitioners." So, herbalists. There is no licensing for that, or if there is, it's a short course and a low-paid job. They will also include pharmacists, I have heard. Maybe astrologists, chiropractors, and certified (by whomever) life coaches!

Yes, while it sounds all professional on paper, it will probably be the same guy, albeit now wearing a lab coat after his one hour course.

I fail to see how this is going to help any.

With demand now reduced to medical prescriptions only, the farmers and flashy ganja shops are still doomed.

Hopefully

If you think anybody voted for Pheu Thai purely based on there promise to recriminalize cannabis,  you are living in cloud cuckoo land.  Most Thais are totally ambivalent regarding the legal status but just like on here the minority are often very vocal

And no  they did not "win" the election, just stop it please there is enough misinformation out there. You don't even smoke but are active on every cannabis related thread, can't you go and troll elsewhere? There is always anti Trump threads for you to joi in with

Bot winning parties had a clear definition of existing cannabis legalization, and who are you to speak for Thai majority?

Based on my limited sphere, nobody wanted legalization of cannabis, still doesnt mean Im right, but lately polls, shows the cannabis tourism and how it ended up to be, not wanted.

Nida poll

60% support reclassing cannabis as classified drug

Moving Forward, and Pheu Thai, had a coalition, prior to the election, the coalition won, but those treasonous Pheu Thai, then abandoned the coalition and jumped in bed with the losers simply to steal the government... Traitors to the Thai people.

Is Thailand a democracy or not?

One can only presume this question is 1) rhetorical and 2) satirically absurd.

Its not an easy, nor bloodless, path to attain the status of more military coups against democratically elected governments than any other country in the world 🌍

from the moment they "legalised" it, it has been a legislaytive and bureaucratic mess - those for didn't prepare the legislation properly and those against are a bunch of hopeless bigots just trying to put people in prison because they don't like it.

So I grow my own and avoid all this bull<deleted> or not? Happy to do so. Everything is quite cheap and practical now: grow tent, LED lights (avoid excess heat and energy), feminized seeds. Simple. Water once a day after checking PH. Add your nutes. Buy a fan.

How would BIB know if I grew my own stash or bought it? If home grown is legal, then how much? Can I throw it all in a giant bucket and say I grew it and be legal? So much is unclear, and just ignored.

I grew my own in an unused bathroom before it went legal.Problem was the LED light put out too much heat and I had to run ac to cool the room down. After it went legal it was cheaper for me to just but it retail.Anyone want a free LED/Tent set up..555

It's crazy cheap now. The whole setup would be under 5000 baht. Lights, tent, fans, nutes, timer. Biggest cost would be the genetics. I'd look for landrace master kush! So, if that's the route I must go, I'll reignite a nice hobby. If you use 150w LED, it's not going to get very hot. Just move very close to the plant. It won't burn. I checked prices on Lazada. Quite cheap for everything.

So this PM or whatever he is just says, "now it's illegal" and he can bypass the Parliament and get it published in The Royal Gazette? I'm genuinely curious. I don't know how it works in real life. Are you saying that the PM makes believe there is no system in place for creating a new law or amending the old one and everyone goes along with that?

No I'm saying Thailand is both a broken democracy and a failed dictatorship.

There is a parliamentary, constitutional monarchical system and there are also, naturally, invisible forces both intentionally circuitous and byzantine

Yeah, but the cheap lights don't work!

I tried cheap lights, nothing grew, I chucked them, then bought the proper lights.
