Police in Chaiyaphum province have arrested a 42-year-old man after disturbing footage emerged showing him violently killing a neighbour’s dog with a wooden club. The incident, which has shocked the local community and gone viral on social media, took place in Huai Ton Subdistrict, Mueang District.

The suspect, identified as Mr Bunyat, was captured on a neighbour’s CCTV entering a neighbour’s property and beating a Bangkaew dog to death, before burying the body behind the house. The video, which was later shared online, by two teenage siblings, students in Mathayom 3 and 4, whose parents own the dog.

According to the siblings, the incident had occurred on 12 June, when they returned home from school to learn from a neighbour that Mr Bunyat had broken into their home and attacked their dog. When they confronted him, the man allegedly threatened to kill them “just like the dog”, leaving them terrified and prompting their delayed report to the authorities.

Following the complaint, officers from Mueang Chaiyaphum Police Station launched a search operation and eventually located Mr Bunyat hiding in a makeshift hut at the edge of the village. He was arrested on 29 June and taken in for questioning, where he confessed to killing the dog but denied the charge of unlawful entry.

He told officers he committed the act because the dog had attacked his chickens. Despite admitting to the killing, he insisted he did not intend to trespass.

Police have charged Mr Bunyat with three serious offences:

1. Animal cruelty, under Thailand’s Prevention of Cruelty and Animal Welfare Act

2. Unlawful entry into a private residence

3. Causing damage to property

The case has reignited debate in Thailand about animal rights, pet protection and the appropriate legal consequences for acts of cruelty. The two students, deeply traumatised by both the loss of their pet and the threats made against them, are reportedly receiving emotional support as legal proceedings move forward.

Anyone who lives in the sticks understands this one.

And other things that go on with animals.

The wood chipper was more of a joke, don't get to fired up over it.

But dead dog over chickens, I get it.

Some times people die over this issue.

Another skinny animal taking out his anti social behavior on a dog, just like the human garbage that's poisoning dogs in my neighborhood and is lucky his identity isn't known, yet. If this dog was attacking him or a child it's understandable, but chickens? Threatening to kill the owners also shows his mindset. Things like this can be worked out with a few baht to replace the chickens and asking to keep the dog at bay.

No. Chickens are raised as food. Dogs are domestic animals and only eaten by some that also don't look at them as pets and part of the family. People have stolen my chickens and ducks, but they are replaceable as they are again, food. Dogs aren't and are more loyal than most any other animals. Anyone who intentionally kills a dog, especially here, isn't doing so for food but anger, over an issue they learned in childhood. That domestic animals lives mean nothing. People that can readily kill a dog are likely to hurt humans a lot easier than those that respect them.

People in Korea eat dog, dog can be ordered at a restaurant there. Do you have any Korean neighbors? Any dogs missing in the neighborhood lately?

I saw them sold in Vietnam when I was there also. Some cultures have no respect for domestic animals, so they're eaten. Dogs here are killed by people who are disturbed. Some even own dogs themselves but like a lot of other things, don't care about nor respect their own neighbors.

Time is ticking on it.

On January 9, 2024, the National Assembly of South Korea unanimously passed a law banning the production and sale of dog meat, to take effect in three years.

Good grief, hope you don’t have any dog eating neighbors.

No, here they've just poisoned at least 25 since I've lived here, and left them to die in pain, to be buried.

No, as most of the animals that have been poisoned were living at my ex wife's mom's house.

Surely you do not live in the countryside.... Noone claims ownership to a dog that runs around on the streets or on other people's property until it is killed or missing. Go to the owner asking for compensation is more likely to cause injury to people more than to an animal or refusal to accept responsibility for their pet. Obviously, the man did not go there and kill the dog because he only saw it on their property. He had his own justification for doing this which the story does not illiterate on.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but my experience was very true. Dogs are a commodity, nothing more.

Yes true.

The dogs next door go spazz,  if and one come nosing around at night.

Good alarm system , mostly. :giggle:

I haven't seen or heard about from anyone I know here that they're eaten here, although I have heard that some do, from others who have lived here. I have seen most everything else eaten here.

I haven't seen it happen but know it did in Texas where I lived. Dogs on other's ranches. Dogs, even pets, do chase down deer, often with negative results all over. I was hunting myself, a couple of miles from any roads or houses, and saw 4 running through the woods, a German Shepherd, and three smaller dogs, likely chasing deer as a group.Coyotes cause much more damage to deer and livestock, so they're hunted all year long in many states.

I live 30 kilos from the nearest city.

A lot of the dogs here that I feed, that come to my house , live on other's farms and houses. That story said it killed his chickens, and after he killed it, he went and threatened the dog's owners. That's going way too far, as it again could have been settled amicably. My story is a little different. Someone, likely a family member or someone who hates my ex's family, has been poisoning dogs and cats for many years, before I even moved here.

Many dogs here that have owners run loose all over, as they don't really care much about animals after they're past kitten and puppy stage. They don't give them shots, train them or even feed them properly. I do know that if you killed someone's dog, one that runs loose all the time, with your car, they're the first to ask for compensation, as I've heard this happen before.
