Manila Mayor Vows to Clean Up Streets and Enforce Minor Curfew

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso has pledged to revitalise the capital's streets through regular cleaning operations and has introduced a curfew for minors in a bid to enhance safety and order.

Under Executive Order No. 2, minors are now prohibited from occupying public spaces between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. This measure aims to protect young people from exposure to criminal activities or substance abuse.

Domagoso, alongside the Manila Police District and barangay officials, recently inspected several key areas, including Radial Road 10, Welcome Rotonda, Espana Boulevard, and R. Papa Street in Tondo. These areas have long been affected by informal settlements and transient activity.

In a recent Facebook post, the mayor shared images showcasing a transformed Divisoria, moving from heaps of rubbish and cluttered streets to a cleaner environment. His caption read, "We will continue cleaning our streets and will not stop until all traces of dirt are gone."

On his first day, Domagoso initiated a series of clean-up drives across numerous major city streets, such as Taft Avenue and Plaza Miranda. He proudly announced that after persistent efforts, the streets were finally clear of rubbish that had accumulated over weeks.

Acknowledging the city's garbage crisis, Domagoso declared a state of health emergency following the abrupt halt of operations by two garbage collection contractors, PhilEco and MetroWaste, due to unpaid services amounting to around P950 million from the previous administration.

In a press conference, Moreno expressed his commitment to tackling the debris problem and ensuring public health, stating, “We've consistently left the streets clean, and we'll keep it that way.”

As part of his broader strategy to improve Manila's urban environment, Domagoso remains firm in resolving these issues through continuous efforts and community involvement, seeking to restore both the city's cleanliness and peace.

Try addressing the poverty problem.

Many Filipino friends have told me that under Duterte Manila was becoming a safer place.  Seems to have regressed.
