The Royal Thai Police are mourning the loss of an officer who died on duty while delivering a high-profile drug case file to the public prosecutor in Lampang province.

Police Lance Corporal Kunakorn Permpheng, known by colleagues as “Mark”, was killed when the police pickup truck he was driving skidded off a rain-soaked road and crashed into a tree in Thoen District, Lampang, on the evening of 30 June 2025. He was returning to Mae Phrik Police Station at the time of the crash.

The vehicle, bearing official police markings, was found severely damaged, with the officer’s body discovered in the driver’s seat. According to initial reports, heavy rainfall had made the road dangerously slippery, likely contributing to the driver losing control.

Police Colonel Prasit Lasomsri, superintendent of Mae Phrik Police Station, expressed sorrow over the loss, stating, “This is a heartbreaking moment for all of us. Lance Corporal Kunakorn was a dedicated officer who died while performing his duties for the public and justice system.”

At the time of the incident, Kunakorn was acting in his capacity as an assistant investigator. He had travelled to Lampang to deliver important documentation for a major drug case under Mae Phrik Police jurisdiction to the provincial public prosecutor. He had also collected forensic results from the Region 5 Scientific Crime Detection Centre to support the ongoing investigation.

The investigation into the crash continues.

It would be interesting to know if the important documents he was carrying have "disappeared" following the accident.

The OP states "He was returning to Mae Phrik Police Station at the time of the crash."  To me this means the documents had been delivered and he was returning to his home police station.

Thanks for the careful reading.

That probably explains it.
