A serious altercation occurred at Bang Khen Police Station in Bangkok when a drunk driver, Sakdirat, assaulted a police officer, repeatedly punching him in the face. The incident unfolded as the officer was escorting the detainee to a holding cell.

Police Sub-Lieutenant Anucha Saowako, the victim, appeared with a swollen face during a media interview, blood visible from his nose, describing the harrowing experience.

Sakdirat had been arrested at a police checkpoint on Watcharapon Road after testing for 130 milligrammes per cent of alcohol. Brought to Bang Khen Police Station around 12:35 am on July 1, he was initially allowed to contact family for bail, but his relatives declined to assist.

Tensions escalated when Sakdirat refused to enter the detention room. As Anucha attempted to usher him in, Sakdirat lashed out, striking the officer multiple times. Fellow officers intervened, eventually restraining him.

Despite being detained, Sakdirat continued to berate Anucha with vulgar insults. Anucha admitted to reacting emotionally by kicking the suspect during a brief second scuffle.

CCTV footage captured another detainee opting to remain seated quietly in the cell, avoiding involvement in the dispute.

Sakdirat faced an initial charge for driving under the influence, which carries penalties under Section 43(2) of the Land Transport Act, including up to one year in prison or a fine between 5,000 and 20,000 baht.

The assault added further charges under Section 183 of the Criminal Law, involving resisting or obstructing an officer, with penalties of up to one year's imprisonment or a fine up to 20,000 baht.

Subsequently, Sakdirat attempted an apology using a wai gesture, though this did not mitigate the legal consequences he now faces.

Possible that he was a honest police officer who refused to take a bribe and this infuriated the drunk driver? 😁

Perhaps a good whack across the forearm of his elbow with a billy club might teach him not to hit a policeman.
