The EU and the European part of NATO have been downsizing their military for decades, believing in diplomatic talks (which has been a disaster), and they haven't woken up before now. Right now Russia do not have the manpower or equipment to take over more European countries, but make no mistake: Russia is in war economy, and they will use the next 3-10 years to massively upgrade their military to be able to invade again. It's in their blood and culture. Europe need to be ready then, because we cannot trust the US to be our ally anymore, under this administration (and maybe the next).
