A family in Surat Thani is mourning the tragic death of a 1-year-and-5-month-old girl who was run over by her grandfather’s reversing pickup truck in the front yard of their village shop.

The devastating incident occurred at around 09:40 on 5 July in Phra Saeng District. Emergency responders from Phra Saeng Rescue Unit rushed to the scene after being alerted and police from Phra Saeng Police Station were called to investigate.

Family members were seen clutching the lifeless body of the young child, referred to as “Nong Zee” , while wailing in anguish. The silver Isuzu pickup truck involved in the incident was parked nearby. Bloodstains were visible on the ground behind the front left tyre on the driver’s side.

Initial reports indicate that the child’s grandfather, a 60-year-old man named Mr Baw, had been reversing the vehicle without realising that the little girl had run behind it. Tragically, he did not see her in time, resulting in the fatal collision.

According to witnesses, the family had gathered at their shop as usual when the toddler, in a moment of innocence, followed her grandfather unnoticed as he prepared to move the vehicle. The incident unfolded in a matter of seconds, leaving the family in utter shock.

Rescue workers transported the child’s body to Phra Saeng Hospital. Officers from Phra Saeng Police Station have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

It's happened in Australia too, dad jumps in his car and reverses out of the driveway and the toddler gets in the way of the reversing vehicle. Must be a terrible thing to live with for the rest of your life.

Good that my car has rear and front view camera.

More about driving over one of my dogs.

Why not mandatory for new pickup models.
