You surely can't fix it with bullying and make u-turns.

Competent adults would have it right from the first time.

90 deals in 90 days right.

From the developed countries there hasn't been a single deal yet.

Lots of countries have become dependent on decades of US largess.  It's going to take awhile to convince them the gravy train is over.  And many are going to scream like a baby that's been denied their ice cream cone.

You think this is sustainable?

A lot of Americans need to be shaken awake, too.  It's gonna suck, but the addiction to cheap stuff from overseas needs to be broken.   Best done by a guy in his second of 2 terms...  I'm as guilty as anybody, buying a 65" big screen because they've become affordable, when my 50" was perfectly adequate.  Keeping in mind I grew up when a 20" screen was considered a luxury.

Thailand taxes all EU and US articles too heavily... So why complain if other countries are doing the same??

I'll live with the same rules.  And as a bonus, I won't need to pay for an extra storage shed to keep all my imported crap that I upgrade from.  I'll just have to get by with the 65 incher.

What makes it even more astonishing is these same countries are attempting to undermine the US dollar as the reserve currency. A key reason for maintaining the trade deficit was the role of the dollar as the reserve currency. But countries like Thailand want to maintain their trade surplus as well as work to undermine the dollar.

You can now buy a right-hand drive Chevrolet Corvette Stingray courtesy of a company called Lumen Automotive, and it costs less than £95,000.

Right-hand drive Corvette available to buy in the UK

All-out American muscle car costs less than £95,000

6.2-litre V8 engine with 475hp

Head-turning exterior design

Quicker to 60mph than a BMW M4 Competition

https://www.carwow.co.uk/news/8146/right-hand-drive-chevrolet-corvette-stingray-on-sale-now

Edit:  £95,000.  That's why the UK will get reasonable tariff terms.  Thailand, not so much...  A new 'Vette in Thailand is probably $400K if you can find one.

Jeez, £95k for that heap of rubbish. How is it possible to get such a low amount of hp from a massive 6.2 litre engine?

Inefficient, old fashioned push rod technology, plastic panels, nasty interior. There is a very good reason no one outside of America buys American cars, tariffs or no tariffs.

Anyone who can read numbers and know what they mean:

Almost a $trillion annual trade deficit isn't sustainable.

So Thailand imports roughly $1.7 billion from the USA. The USA imports roughly $63.3 billion from Thailand.

How could Thailand increase its imports to parity with the USA when it has a populati9n of 70m while the USA has a population of 350 million? Especially when their demand is different.

I think you'd be surprised how many Thai people would buy Corvettes, Mustangs, Chargers and F250's if they weren't tariffed to death.

So no other cars have plastic panels........🤭

So folk must only buy interiors that you like.......🤭

You just don't like American cars, full stop.........🤭

It looks like japan is ready to play ball, their tariffs are delayed. Unfortunately thailand is busy twiddling their thumbs

I'm thinking Thai arrogance had a role to play. Well they've got a few more weeks to recognise Trump has more economic power and the only way to reduce the 36% is to accept Trump has the upper hand. Like Vietnam has done. Vietnam will surge whilst Thailand will suffer.

The art of making a deal!

No I didn't. It makes a decent amount but 458 lb-ft is hardly ground breaking is it.

You're getting closer. Most of them are heaps of old tech laden rubbish. Unsophisticated, cheap, shoddy. I can see why you like them.

I do like the Ford GT though. And the Hennessey Venom F5. So not true to say I don't like American cars full stop. I just don't like most of them.

Thailand will be in stormy weather with these high tariffs.

Look here, what Potus said to the new tariffs in general:

Republicans against Trump on X: "Trump has no f***ing idea what he’s doing with trade deals and tariffs. He just says whatever pops into his head at the moment. A total clown and buffoon. https://t.co/3zxaaN3Fil" / X

Press secretary is starting to look like the job is draining the life out of her from keeping up with all the tales she has to tell and questions she has to deflect.

PR Thai Government

@prdthailand

US will levy a 36% import tariff on all Thai goods starting 1 Aug, completely independent of current product-specific duties. Goods rerouted via 3rd nations to dodge these tariffs face even higher rates. If Thailand boosts tariffs on US imports, that increase will add up to 36%

https://x.com/prdthailand/status/1942459345339621590/photo/1

Economist indicates 36% tariff underscores US's displeasure with negotiations with Thailand, pol instability & lack of decisive leadership & more damaging - a win-win approach is difficult, and Thailand may need to find a give-and-take solution by considering all impacts.

Wine is duty free, cars 30-50%.

Yeah, she had to quit wearing her signature crucifix necklace because it started burning so much with each lie she told.

Thailand charged me 41% a couple weeks ago to import tennis shoes and strings.  Thailand unfortunately will have experience the effects of the good for Thailand but we want discount from USA mentality.  Hope they can work a fair deal and reduce import fees for USA goods

Correct. Fuel prices down. Core inflation down a bit but not increasing. Going up though are blue collar jobs and investment.

Stick with what you know, twinks and ladyboys, okay buddy?👍

If we're honest, no one can actually predict wtf is going to happen world-wide, but I can imagine one temporary outcome would be paralysis, world wide (even if only for a month or two, but any full stop to world trade is going to have knock-on effects for a year or two or possibly more.)

Global financial crisis.  Who steps in to resolve it????

So, Thailand can continue with its 80% tariffs on many goods imported from United States. Is that what Thailand was going to preserve?

4 hours ago, John Drake said:

Transshipment tariffs will be even higher. Probably a lot higher than Vietnam's 40 percent.

Don't forget the 7% vat tax that makes Thailand at 42 %
