Thailand taxes all EU and US articles too heavily... So why complain if other countries are doing the same??

Funny, I'm thinking Trump's arrogance had the largest role to play.

China is now warning other Asian countries. If they make a deal with US they will have big problems with China.

Well..what is Thailand doing about that.?They have painted themselves in a corner already.

I'm not shocked.

There is a solution!!!!  Trump has gathered top minds from MIT, Stanford, Yale, Harvard, and more...... and will debate against the "great" minds of Aseannow!!!!!

Please, submit your CV for consideration, as well as salary, net worth, political experience, and maximum amount of beers drunk in Pattaya on Monday morning.

Leave this to the adults.

My guess is that Thailand has been contacting the White House and they have been totally unprepared for negotiations, and have been putting Thailand off until they have some semblance of a cohesive strategy. Trump has no idea what he's doing from one day to the next and my guess is that he's quite senile at this point. If not senile, most certainly insane.

In most cases I agree it would mostly be Trump's fault. He entered this tariff program without a plan, no strategic stockpiles, and constantly changing tariff targets. But Thailand changes PMs as often as Srettha changes his socks. Its government is and has been in chaos since the last election. Its entire focus has been integrating papa Shin back into the leadership. However bad Trump is on this issue, the Shins have been far worse.

Which is why it's better for the US to partner with the Philippines over the likes of Vietnam who will buckle under to China. Malaysia has already said it's on China's side. Indonesia too.

And you have to be pretty bad to be worse than Trump, they should almost issue prizes for that. Dummy of the Year.

Don’t tell Trump.  If he knew Thailand drove on the left hand side of the road he would demand they change sides.

Unfortunately this has been the most entertaining thread in a long time.

When a friend turns against you, perhaps the alternative to fighting is to ignore and look for new friends. Looking at the BRICS countries seems a rational strategy. Even though Trump said he will punish countries that try to replace the USA with BRICS (another friendly gesture). Certainly, less reliance on the dollar would open up markets to trade in more currencies.

Risk management professionals usually point out that putting too many eggs in one basket is dangerous.

Of course, it is Thailand that has aligned against the US and moved towards China. The fact is there is only one thing that Thailand produces that has a relatively high demand in the US. That is Hard Drives, HDDs. Everything else Thailand exports to the US could be more easily and in many cases more cheaply produced in countries closer to the US. HDDs could be limited too. Flashdrives already hold as much memory as HDDs did a few years ago. SSDs hold more. HDDs are dying market. A trade war with Thailand on China's side could finish off HDDs as a consumer item almost entirely. And Thailand would lose one of it major industries.

Seems like it would be in thailands best interest to bend over backwards to the US in this situation but they are not as savvy as vietnam

Wasn't there an opinion poll recently that said 55 percent of Thais favored China over the US? Maybe they need to get their wish and find out what results from it. Thais have become complacent, thinking the US will always give way to placate them. That's why I say the US should invest and promote the Philippines, where the culture, language, and immigration ties support the connection.

There is redundancy in the supply chains, HDs destined for the US don't need to come from Thailand, they could come from somewhere else and the Thai ones go to Europe / rest of world.

WD/Seagate are not stupid enough to put all their eggs in one basket....again.

Called it when they reduced taxes......prices will stay the same, CP profits will increase, and the tax take will decline. Pure genius.

...took awhile.....but there we go.....the good old thumbs down that appears on every post.

Think I'd miss it now if it stopped appearing.

Anyone got the ***** to own up?

Well, Thailand can hardly complain about this as it puts tariffs on all foreign goods to silly extents and it's not just cars, it's everything... can't have it both ways. Maybe some introspection is needed Thailand.

That letter looks as if it was written by a low-IQ 10 year old.

Trump's signature looks like monkey scribble.

Correct. Fuel prices down. Core inflation down a bit but not increasing. Going up though are blue collar jobs and investment.

Just another reminder that this is a total bully in action again. Shame on the USA.

The first time it was widely known that Thailand was already on the red line with the imbalance do to COVID and change in administration Thailand did nothing in fact the imbalance has grown it was widely know due to China tariff many companies diverted their products to othe SEA including Thailand repackage the product as coming from Thailand since tariff didn't change I know this for a fact since two my family members in China did just that!

The 90 days delay was to give countries time to come to table Thailand hadn't so today they got socked and I say good! I've also seen petitions for expat living her US citizens against these tariff I stated I'm not signing ever. I don't support Trump but these tariff can be temporary meantime pain uncomfortable not a problem I think it is the right thing being done.

I suggest that Thai massage parlors double their prices for American customers and even triple the prices of "Happy Ending" . . .
