The New Face of WAR

Bombing 7/11s.  Both Thailand and Cambodia's leaders need to take a deep breath and step back.  Then look at the absurdity of using deadly force to claim territory around Buddhist temples.  Siddhartha Gautama Buddha would be shaking his head as both Thai and Cambodia leaders resort to killing (civilians) out of greed for land.

Such a waste. Lovely people on both sides of a line on a map being killed due to decisions made by people who will never feel the effects.  Why is this being done? Probably a distraction. Get the Thai

What is the root cause of this present conflict though?

Thailand preventing Thais gambling in Cambodia resulting in loss of income for Cambodia?

Thais cutting electricity and the internet in an attempt to close down the scam centres across the border in Cambodia?

Something else?

More like the Hun Sen and Shinawatra families having a power struggle

If they ever get any "reinforcements"  for the current conflict, it will be Chins that gives.

The Thai military spokesman looked rather policshed and articulate:

Now the Cambodian Military news conference.  She looks angry.and raising her finger.

Lobbing rockets on and killing civilians isn't going to help your case any.  You need to take control of your idiots in uniform, and forget about a couple temples along the border.

This p***ing match between Thailand and Cambodia over Ta Muen Thom temple Buddhist Temple never ends:
🇹🇭 It's ours.  Aggghhhhh! We kill you!!!
🇰🇭 No, it's ours.  Aggghhhhh! We kill you!!!
Who actually dies?  Primarily civilians.  Shelling freaking 7/11s ffs!

Here's the primary problem: The vast majority of humans are genocidal, blood-lust filled, war-monkeys. That animal-like territorial instinct woven into the human genome.  It takes a real effort (like being a Buddhist meditator) to overcome those innate, hardwired desires for what is yours and for what is not yours - but you want it, and my Buddha, you'll kill to get it.

The utter absurity of it <head shake>.

Not all people are genocidal, blood-lust filled, war-monkeys.  There are really good people on this planet who want to see a total end of wars by all countries for all reasons they fabricate.  Making weapons of war should be universally banned. But in quintessential human absurdity, how do you enforce a ban on weapons of war?  By threatening the use of weapons of war.  <Puts hand over eyes and shakes head>

But reality.  Almost all leader universally seem to be genetically wired to wage endless wars, and their populations of cud-chewing, low-intellect,unquestioning  cannon-fodder are happy to step up as "patriots" and "die for their countries."  Only problem being, they aren't - "dying for their countries.  They are dying for some wealthy and powerful people's unending greed and bottomless desire to rule the lives of those whose countries they don't control and to steal as much of the natural resources and artifacts as possible.  You know - like demanding that a Buddhist temple is - THEIRS!

Marine Corps Major General Smedley Butler sums it up succinctly, and as a US veteran who has been there and done that - I agree 100%. We all should be screaming for the global end to war - BUT - War IS A Racket. And the vast majority of humans are genocidal, blood-lust filled, war-monkeys.  That's just sad as Hell. How do I know.  What examples do I have?  My "good," faith-filled, Thai Buddhist wife who never misses a chance to go to temple sits in front of her TV and exclaims, "Thailand kick Campucha (Cambodia) ass." I don't hold out a lot of faith for the continued existence of mankind on this planet.

"It War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives." – Smedley Butler, War Is a Racket, 1935.

"A few profit – and the many pay. But there is a way to stop it. You can't end it by disarmament conferences. You can't eliminate it by peace parleys at Geneva. Well-meaning but impractical groups can't wipe it out b

resolutions. It can be smashed effectively only by taking the profit out of war." – Smedley Butler, War Is a Racket, 1935.

"I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers." – Smedley Butler, War Is a Racket, 1935.

"In the World War, we used propaganda to make the boys accept conscription. They were made to feel ashamed if they didn't join the army." – Smedley Butler, War Is a Racket, 1935.

"The trouble with America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag." – Smedley Butler, speech, 1933.

And I guarantee that Thai and Cambodia Buddhists go there.

All those people at Erawan Shrine.  Almost all are Buddhists.  Perhaps you don't grasp the fact that "Thai Buddhism" is an amalgam of Animism, Hinduism, and Buddhism.  My bet is that applies to Cambodian Buddhists as well. So it doesn't matter that's it's Khmer Hindu. The Buddhists in Thailand will just absorb other religious traditions, especially Hinduism, and file in under "Thai Buddhism." Just saying...

No they are going to use the impervious to anything including war' Kevlar Baht' to beat the Cambo's to death with 🤔

We were 3 km from one of the bombs that hit yesterday. My daughter is visiting and we were on our way to Phanom Rung Temple and suddenly stopped in gridlock traffic and the police had closed off the road and whilst we were sat there and Almighty bang shook the ground. I seriously thought it was 200 m away but it was about 3 km away clearly decided to do U-turn and get the hell out of there. We live 91 km from the border and overnight we could hear bombs eating so they sent some more last night just assessing our options but I think we’re gonna get the <deleted> out of Dodge. You’d be a moron to sit and wait with kids when you’ve got the ability to bail.

The architecture of the old temples were untouched. They just replaced the Hindu deities with Buddhist one and used them as Buddhist temples. I have seen these too in Cambodia not only in Thailand.

Like US of A did, at the early stage of their involvement in Vietnam?

WW2 surpluses like M1 rifles/carbines, B26, PT boats etc given away to S/Vietnam.

From reports, they were firing BM21s which appear to have a range of < 50km.

They were highly reckless firing into civilian areas around the border yesterday, if they somehow escalated to your sort of range and deeper into Thailand territory I think they could reasonably expect the Thai Air Force to further bomb the absolute living c--p out of them and start attacking military targets deeper in Cambodia.

Thailand has total military superiority, so it would be stupid to continue poking the bear.

Social media is full of nationalists of both sides with the cut, copy and paste statements. Quite frankly, I don't really care and we will never find out who fired the first shot, was does seem evident is that the Cambodians were indiscriminately firing missiles into Thai civilian areas.

I expect most neutral observers will judge that extremely negatively. The Cambodian leadership likely won't care a jot about global opinion, this whole exercise is more for domestic consumption and affirming their grip on power.

....and the land around it? (which is what the dispute relates to).

Dramatic aftermath footage from the PTT/7-ELEVEN explosions. Also video aftermath of the alleged rocket attack on the hospital - with a CCTV security camera still in place, seemingly undamaged - yet no footage of the actual explosions or rocket strike. I wonder why that is.

If I was a Commander in charge id save a bit of cash by getting rid of the Assault Rifles and tool the boy's up with a few Bamboo sticks and a few iron bars. They seem to have lieing around there pretty good using these as a weapon.

The key is to find out where Hun Sen and Hun Manet are staying, then eliminate these threats to mankind. Take out their SAM sites first, then go hunting. Letting this War Criminal (Mass Murderer) and his offspring to control Cambodia any longer, is not an option.

Thailand could destroy cambodia in one evening if they wanted by offering any cambodians under the age of 30 thai citizenship if they renounce their cambodian citizenship. This would cause huge problems in the area, but cambodia literally has ZERO chips in this game.

Not being a person that  can offer expertise advise. Yet I have indirectly seen war at close hand. May, if I can, suggest to Thailand and if it's not too late, that Thailand cancels  the Chinese deal on submarines, as any moron knows they are useless on land to land locked countries and focus on more practical weapons to potentially fight that type of war.
