Emergency responders were called to the scene of a road crash, early on the morning of 31 July, after a pick-up truck driver veered off the road and crashed into a tree in Surat Thani province.

The incident occurred along Highway 41 in front of Wing 7 Air Force Base, located in Moo 5, Maluan Subdistrict, Phunphin District. Rescue teams from Phunphin were alerted at approximately 06:45 and rushed to the site with hydraulic cutting tools to extract those trapped inside the wreckage.

Reports confirm that the pick-up truck driver lost control and plunged into the central ditch, before slamming into a tree. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another individual was injured.

The deceased driver has been tentatively identified as a resident of Pattani province, but authorities have not been able to contact the victim’s family.

Photos from the scene show a heavily damaged pick-up truck, which was used to transport watermelons, leading to local social media users referring to the case as the “watermelon truck crash.”

Local police are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the crash, which may have been linked to speeding or poor road conditions at that time.

Which is most likely a 'likely'....     Two tonnes of watermelons, a driver travelling at speed, light steering input, and a moment’s inattention. A dangerous combination. At least, this time, he didn’t take out an innocent motorcyclist along with himself.

It’s tragic how often these unnecessary deaths occur. But in single-vehicle incidents like this, there’s usually only one person responsible.

Yes, terms like “likely” and “usually” reflect a lack of absolute certainty - but when you look at the scale of the damage, there’s one thing that is certain: excessive speed was involved. And that makes it, ultimately, a self-inflicted incident with no one else to blame.

Of course you are right! 🙂 Definitely a stupid driver, with no critical thinking at all.

However, what I was posting back against is that saying it was 2 ton fruit on a 1 ton car. To make this damage, it´s clearly enough to have 500-600 kilo of fruit on the car. No need for overload. Excessive speed will take care of it 😉

Those photos would be considered graphic if one did not know that was watermelon juice

You certainly don’t know. Though the fact is that you weren’t there and you don’t know, that is a fact along with all your other imaginary speculations.
