Military sources on 3 August, released images showing troops demolishing the “Chong Khan Ma” stairway in Sisaket Province to prevent Cambodian soldiers from accessing the disputed Phu Makua area.

The action followed intense clashes between Thai and Cambodian forces that took place from 24 to 28 July along the mountainous border zone.

According to reports, after regaining control over Phu Makua, Thai troops drove Cambodian units back from the cliff outcrop overlooking the area. They proceeded to destroy a cable system and a Cambodian military base located below the ridge using drone-delivered explosives.

The demolition of the Chong Khan Ma stairway, a vital route for movement up the escarpment, was intended to sever Cambodia’s logistical access to the high ground and reinforce Thai control following the confrontation.

Images published showed Thai soldiers planting and detonating charges along the stairway structure during the operation.

Military officials have stated that securing Phu Makua was a priority due to its strategic position and the history of disputes in the region.
