Thailand's army has stepped up to quash swirling social media rumours suggesting that an evacuation of Surin province is underway in preparation for an attack on Cambodia.

The chatter started after a post, allegedly shared by Cambodia's former PM, Hun Sen, claimed the Thai army had ordered the evacuation to get ready for an assault ahead of an upcoming General Border Committee meeting.

Major General Vinthai Suvari, the army spokesperson, has completely refuted the claims, asserting the absence of any such orders. He urged the public to rely on official news sources rather than unverified online reports that could provoke unnecessary panic.

The Thai military stresses its commitment to the ceasefire agreement, although it's prepared for unexpected developments given Cambodia’s frequent violations and reported military build-up in the border area, reported Siam Rath.
