A 64-year-old man drowned in a neighbour’s pond in Chalerm Phrakiat district, Buriram, after reportedly drinking late into the night. Rescue divers recovered his body nearly ten hours after he was last seen alive.

The incident occurred in Ban Khok Tahung Pattana, Moo 15, Isan Khet subdistrict, Chalerm Phrakiat district, where local rescue volunteers from the Sawang Chanyatham Foundation responded to a missing person report. The search was initiated after the man’s shoes were discovered floating on the surface of a nearby pond.

Divers spent approximately 20 minutes locating the body of Mr. Thawin. Authorities estimated he had been deceased for at least ten hours. An initial examination of the body revealed no signs of physical assault or injury.

The deceased’s son, Mr. Samart 35, said that he and his father would routinely drink local rice whisky together beside the pond on a wooden platform owned by a neighbour. On the night of the incident, at around 20:00, their liquor ran out. He left briefly with a friend to buy more and returned roughly 30 minutes later to find his father missing. After a fruitless overnight search, a neighbour noticed the shoes floating in the pond the next morning, prompting the call to rescue services.

Another neighbour, Ms. Suphon 57, stated that Mr. Thawin had only recently returned home from working at an ice factory in Bangkok, having been back for just over a month. Since his return, he was known to drink heavily on a daily basis, often starting in the morning and spending most of the day intoxicated.

Police Lieutenant Kasidet Wongsopha, the investigating officer from Chalerm Phrakiat Police Station, confirmed that a full inquiry would be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
