Saving delivery fees that can be made into a 20 baht tip for the drivers. I like their service.

  • Yeah, because FoodPanda had a much better English interface, but it is now out of business.

Cue Thais complaining about farangs getting preferential treatment with "Grab Expat Pass" and unfair THB 2000 discounts.

talking about True Money, I haven't been able to make that work either, the facial recognition was a problem IIRC.

A lot of people have brute-forced registration on TrueMoney Wallet, including myself. You can top-up TrueMoney Wallet from a Thai bank account. And you can pay Grab from your TrueMoney Wallet.

When you travel from living in the sticks to somewhere a bit more developed, give Grab a try, it is a great service, but, you will probably put on 10 stone in a month.

i would say "if" as opposed to   "when"  I'm   perfectly happy in the sticks , and with the wifes  home cooking,   Well away from temptation , but that's just me. others can of course do as they want

Never used it and dont intend to use it, I go out every morning do some exercise, there is an abundance of shops on my way around, 7/11's every 500 meters, Tops, Lotus's and a big Makro on my way home with a big car park easy to pull in, a couple of mornings a week I sit in Starbucks I cant believe the amount of grab riders who collect just one drink and go deliver, I wonder how much that cost on Grab?

I use it almost daily.

I like to choose Pay Cash for Grab food orders and then pay by scan transfer from a Thai bank account when they arrive. You can add a tip on the total there as well. If you don't have a non-cash way to pay be sure to message the driver to ask if she can make change for the bills that you have to pay. If you don't do that, there is a good chance they won't be able to make change.

We once had Grab deliver a single coffee drink to our condo one block from the establishment.  I had intended to use Grab to order for pick-up, then pay in cash when I picked it up.  Grab wouldn't allow us to order using cash for pick-up.

So we switched to delivery of the single drink to our condo 50m away.  Delivery fee: 2 thb.

(Price of the drink when ordered via Grab was the same as in the coffee shop.)

As far as pricing, obviously the restaurant must pay a large cut to Grab. So restaurants often charge 30 percent more. But not always. Also if you're on a Grab plan you can get as much as 80 baht off orders with the code -- EXPAT20.  One time a day. Plus discounted or free delivery. Some restaurants have their own promotion codes as much as 130 off.  Overall I think it's a great value. A win win for consumer and Grab. Not so sure about the restaurants.

Thanks for your patience in explaining these things.

But I don't know what you mean by brute-force registration on TrueMoney Wallet.

Is this something that is generally known about?

How do you do it?

Unfortunately, Foodpanda, my food delivery service, is no longer available after I canceled the lousy Grab service! The lineman is also good now! Good navigators, unlike Grab, where anyone who can ride a motorcycle can work! Customer service and manners are absent from most. Note! This is my opinion based on my experiences!

Every Sunday morning with a decent hangover I used foodpanda to deliver me a delicious double sausage and egg mcmuffin and a couple of hash browns.

Grab does not accept my address so no more Sunday morn deliveries. I reckon I've lost 2kg since foodpanda shut down !

If I order food on Grab (often) I've noticed my daughters phone (Thai) shows cheaper prices.....

I keep getting offers on their food delivery stuff but it’s in Thai language about some big discounts but I never could figure out how to get put it in they should work on their app to make it more

That's twice you've mentioned Grab not accepting your address. Any specifics as to why? We may be able to fix the issue. Besides, you're losing way too much weight.

my house number is not recognized on their app... houses either side of me are.

I shall continue to use a tuk-tuk to go to Immigration. 🙂

Never mind the ridiculous novelty perks, just cut the outrageous delivery fees!!

try Grab Unlimited for 99b per year - pays for itself rather quickly by waiving or steeply discounting delivery fees.

But they can't hire a single human translator to work on making the app expat friendlier. Oh, well, they don't have to if they think it doesn't make business sense.

Guess who owns it - oh, okay, it's one of the oligarch families - no surprise.

The language barrier has really put me off Grab. Let's see if their widget will really translate - often these things don't work very well from Thai to English (like on Messenger or FB, as a good example, which only works 10% of the time). The good English delivery sites have all disappeared it seems.

Weird indeed.

My friend had issues with Food Panda when he first signed up years ago as the map they referred to showed his house accessible from a parallel street where in reality there was a wall closing off his gated community from that street, and his house was at the end of a cul-de-sac. He could hear the delivery guys calling from just the other side of the 4-meter wall, asking bahn u-nai?

Seriously? I would need to see a couple of screen grabs before I'd believe that Grab uses the same pricing policies as national parks.

Great if you are close enough. My ride would be ten Km resulting in a very sore rear end, so I'll continue using  a taxi.

Always double check your receipt.  I have had a few Grab drivers try to put EXTRA charges of the ticket.  Fortunately, I have caught them, and Grab reimbursed me, but the reimbursing process is not "friendly."

I have also experienced Grab drivers claiming I was not at the pickup point, so I got cancellation charges.  Again, if you go through the dispute process, you get refunded.  Frankly, the GPS-location data is not 100% accurate.

I have also used Bolt.  A little cheaper.  A little inconsistent.  A decent backup.

Exactly, seems like it would make business sense to translate those offers into English but I guess not or they would.  It is interesting to advertise how expat friendly they are and then not really even try.

Mine's 7km each way. I quite enjoy it. Bit of an adventure.
