Thailand’s Middle-Aged Face Mental Health Crisis—New Report Flags Alarming Stress Levels

The Thai Health Report 2025, released by ThaiHealth and Mahidol University, estimates that 13.4 million Thais now suffer from mental health issues. Among them, the 45–59 “pre‑senior” group reports the lowest happiness and life satisfaction scores—highlighting a widespread emotional breakdown during this transitional life stage. The report includes 10 key indicators across demographics and notes that even younger cohorts (15–29) are battling rising rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation—fuelled by academic pressure, social comparison, and familial expectations. Broader societal woes like economic strain, low birth rates, debates over alcohol reform, cannabis confusion, e-cigarette use, and casino legalization compound the mental health burden.
