Thailand becoming the New Taiwan: Riders on the Storm

Dear Folks,

Perhaps you have not been here long enough to realize, at the gut level, down to the bone, just how Climate Change is affecting us here.

I know that you might not, if you might also be in denial.

However, I can tell you, the weather here is becoming far more unpredictable, and far more severe, in recent years.

What we are up against here, now, is a total change of weather from what we once knew.

TECHNICS....Such a great turntable, too.....

I know what you are thinking.

You are thinking that I am NUTZO....but...

You would be wrong.

I am NOT a dog without a bone......

Let your children play.

Do we not care about our children, anyway?

And yet, we continue to burn coal.

Clean coal....

CLEAN COAL.....

What a joke.

Any reviews of this turntable, anyway?

I love the needle and the vinyl....

How much does this cost, anyway?

I should buy one.

Anyway....back to the MAIN TOPIC....

I have seen Thailand weather begin to approach Taiwan weather, in the recent year.

So much rain.

And, it will become even greater in the near years to come.

The more heat, the more water vapor in the atmosphere.....

What do you think?

Do you think the Scientists from Leads University, such as Tim Lenton, are correct?

Into this world we are thrown...

Like a Dog Without a Bone.....

Tim is one of the smartest and most humorous Scientists I have ever known.

He has a great sense of perspective.

Tim is a NO-NONSENSE kind of guy.

But, he does not force his findings on fools, neither.

Yes.

The climate here in Thailand is becoming far more like that of Taiwan, an....

OCEANIC CLIMATE...with rain coming out the kazoo, more than ever.

What do you think?

This is NOT nonsense, by the way.

Soon, we will all experience a Biblical Flood,....

As if we did not already experience a few, in very recent times.

Best regards,

Gamma

Sounds good.

Nothing nutty about it.

Personally, I much disliked Miles Davis' later works....and the above is one I do not like.

Gamma globulin is a class of proteins in the blood that includes immunoglobulins, which are crucial for the immune system as they help fight infections. These proteins can be administered as injections to boost immunity or treat certain medical conditions.

This thread certainly needs some of that!

Not about climate change.

I have a vintage Garrard 301 turntable.  I was returning home one day and saw the old man across the street putting it on the ground next to his trash can (pick the next day).   I parked and walked back to see the thing and took it.

In the used and cigarette smoke covered condition it was in, decades old, it was still worth over $300.00 to a collector.   Reconditioned ones are highly sought after.

This thread certainly needs some of that!

To be completely honest with you....

The entire impetus for posting this Topic struck me last night.

Here where I am, we were bombarded with a rainstorm, the likes of which I had never seen before in Thailand.

And, upon being deluged, I immediately thought of my time in Taiwan.

You might not know it, but in Taiwan, at least where I lived for a spell, it was not untoward for us to be on the receiving end of about.....

EIGHT (8) Meters of rain, during one year.....

And, once in a while, even more.

Do you even know how much 8 meters of rain feels like????

I am sure that you do not.

But, I do.

=============

Now, let us be clear, so that nobody will think I am joking, or that I am talking nonsense here:

image.png.55fdf7c82bdc32c1e6d23fd35b7042ff.png

What do YOU think "AVERAGE" might mean?

Average 6.7 meters.

What does that even mean?

It means, of course, that some years, in Taiwan, we can get NINE meters of rain.

How high do you think NINE meters might be....for rain?

Can you EVEN imagine it, if you had not seen it with your own eyes?

===================

And so, the PURPOSE of this Topic, which was NOT intended to cause any undue consternation, mind you....

Was just to remark on the fact that, maybe, and probably likely, Thailand, where I am, is becoming a lot like Taiwan.

I ALSO provided a suggestion for anybody to link to Tim Lenton, one of the foremost researchers in the world, concerning tipping points, and climactic trends.

Is TIM full of NONSENSE?

No....Tim is a very smart man, and we have great respect for his decades of research.

YES, I did say CLIMACTIC trends, and this was NOT a typo, Folks.

image.png.73e14825f81bd0113a8261a609d25d89.png

image.png.1314e9447787521e7eb98f54f0244231.png

Also, I have eyes.

I can see what is happening around here.

This year, we are getting rain like no other year.

Also, I hear from my friend, up in Chiang Rai, that he is seeing rain almost every day.

Concerning the allusion to RIDERS ON THE STORM.....

You can make of it what you wish.

Why should I, a learned author and poet, be required to explain every singly minute detail to readers who do not understand what I am writing about, no matter how logical my prose?

SURE.....

I spelled it out for you, from the first Headline to the First Sentence, to the final ending of my Topic.

Yet, sometimes, you just cannot expect the author to spell things out for you, minute by minute.

Did they do this for you when you were at school?

I think not.

So then, if you really want to understand this Topic, concerning Thailand's becoming more like Taiwan, then please just do your research.

Please just go live on the island of Formosa for decades.

Whatever it takes you to understand the obvious, is OK with me.

And, by the way......

I DID mention "minute by minute".....

And, it would be HIGHLY remiss of me not to follow through with what I always do, because....

One should NOT live in fear.....I think....

So...yes....

Minute by Minute.

And, if you hate the Doobie Brothers, then that is your tough luck.....

But, this thread is NOT nonsense, and it is NOT wordy, except in some alternative universe.....

You will be sorry if you do not listen to me....

When the Biblical Floods are upon you.....

Mark my words...

If you want to get educated:

Head out to Cambridge.....

And talk to my fellow-alum....Tim....

I am not sure what you mean by, "never used a spindle", unless you are writing about 45 rpm records.

I have been looking for a vintage (reconditioned) stereo amplifier with radio, to go with it.   Panasonic preferred.

OK.

No problemo....

I am old enough to elucidate:

image.png.4be7faafa53e901ce30640635e23ad5a.png

In the 60s, some of the cheap record players, not turntables usually, had these.

One could recline on the bed, with one's GF, and listen to about 8 or 9 LPs....

Which would fall from the spindle....

Without moving a muscle.

We had an old record player, many years ago, with a spindle mechanism.

Some spindles were longer than others.

The last time I actually used a cheap LP record player with my long spindle to play a few albums,

I think the last album I listened to must have been The James Gang.

Probably FUNK 49.

OK, understood.   The current Garrard 301 I have has a single record spindle, with the 45 RPM accessory spindle.

The last turntable I had that had a multi record spindle was a Garrard as well, the Garrard Zero 100 ... or I think it did.  Might not have.  That was back in 1974.

There were plastic "adapters" that would fit over the spindle on the 33/3 record players, so that we could play 45s.

Yes, you are correct.

However, we never used them after the LPs were introduced.

I still recall the 78s.

Those were the ones that would shatter when dropped on the floor.

Once had a slew of lousy classical 78s.

But, that was before I discovered JS Bach.

Concerning Tim Lenton, and his extensive research relating to tipping points....

Lenton is the type who could easily be held up as a model for most scientists.

Both brilliant and self-effacing, he continues to do his research without fanfare.

He seeks not the limelight, and hides from it.

He is not the type to appear on the Johnny Carson Show.

Great respect for Lenton.

But, regarding Paul?

Paul was always too much of a ham.

Guessing one is either very young or just (pre-industrial revolution) old. 🙂

Love vinyl... a track originally put down on tape, banged into a disc and then expressed through a valve amp with a decent set of speakers is one of the 'warmest' sounds one can hear... of a piece that was done the 'proper' way.

Is that bi thing modelled on the SL1200 ?

I have heard that said about valve (tubes in U.S. of A.) amps.   I would have to have my hearing aids in to really enjoy it though, or crank the sound up loud.  I am deaf at certain frequencies in the upper range.

I was amazed at how much better music sounded in my pick up truck when I was given a good set of hearing aids that amplified only the frequencies I had difficulties hearing.    Which includes the tree frogs where I live.

It's interesting that you post a copy of what you found with AI.

We don't know the database AI is based on. How many data are used.? What kind of? Yellow Press, Science? Which studies, aso aso.

So, AI CAN be helpful. However, at last you have to use your human brain to decide.

Apparently it's fashion, or still a lack of knowledge or brain issues to use AI, on AN in particular.

At this stage of AI development, one must know more than the machine to be able to use an AI with assurance.

This is still OK, and an AI can be very useful for some tasks, and not for others.

For example, for computer programming, the use of AI can be very beneficial and efficient.

However, for one to use an AI as a Shrink.....might be hazardous and unsafe.

It is not rare to experience an AI insisting that object or word exists within an uploaded image when this is totally false.

And, even if the AI is corrected, the AI will often insist that the nonexistent word or object does exist.

To any human observer, the object or word was never in the image, to begin with.

So, this is one of the simplest examples of fabrication of what does not exist.

It seems doubtful that this type of error can easily be eradicated from any AI, anytime soon.

Still, who can say for sure?
