Thailand Forces Closure of Over 1,000 Cannabis Shops in Major Sweep

Thailand’s Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine conducted a nationwide crackdown from June 16 to August 13, targeting 5,218 of the 18,763 cannabis-related businesses. The operation resulted in suspending 724 licences, revoking 129, prosecuting 180 unlicensed operators, and permanently shutting down 1,079 shops. Authorities also seized nearly 981 kg of cannabis, conducted 116 seizures, and arrested 33 individuals linked to smuggling attempts via Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports.
