The local authorities in Pai have launched a safe driving training programme aimed at rental vehicle operators, with the goal of reducing road crashess and promoting long-term traffic safety.

The initiative was held on 18 August at Pai Wittayakarn School, where Mr Akkadech Taprap, Mayor of Pai, reported to Mr Napol Pahumanto, District Chief of Pai, at the opening of the “Safe Driving for Road Safety” project. The programme targets operators of car rental businesses and aims to equip them with knowledge and skills to improve road safety for both locals and visiting tourists.

Funded by the Road Safety Fund, the training covered topics including traffic law compliance, first aid, and safe driving techniques. Participants are expected to pass on this knowledge to tourists who use rental vehicles in the area, ensuring safer travel practices.

The session was attended by 50 participants, including rental car operators, drivers and school transport providers. The programme received support from multiple agencies, including the Mae Hong Son Provincial Land Transport Office, Office of Insurance Commission, Pai Police Station and Pai Hospital, who provided expertise and guidance during the training.

Officials emphasised that initiatives like this are part of a broader effort to promote sustainable road safety and reduce crashes in the district.
