A police inspector was discovered dead in his car on the morning of 19 August, in what officers believe to be a case of suicide.

The incident occurred at around 05:00, in Ban Klang sub-district, Lom Sak district, Phetchabun province. Police responding to the scene found the body of Pol Lt Col Promet, an investigations inspector with Lom Kao police station, seated inside a white Ford vehicle parked near a local shop.

Beside the body, investigators discovered a handgun believed to have been used in the incident. The officer had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the temple.

Initial enquiries suggest the inspector had been suffering from stress related to his work. Police say they will continue questioning family members and colleagues to establish a clearer picture of the circumstances leading up to his death.

Authorities are also interviewing the person who first found the body, as part of standard procedure in cases of sudden or unexplained death.

The investigation remains ongoing.
