A 64-year-old disabled man was fatally struck by a car while attempting to cross a road in Muang district, Chachoengsao province.

Police Lieutenant Rangsarn Pongsuwan of Muang Chachoengsao Police Station reported that emergency services were called to the scene near the entrance of Soi Bang Khwan 2 on the Chachoengsao–Bang Nam Phreaw road at around 13:30 on 21 August. Forensic doctors from Phutthasothon Hospital and local rescue teams also attended.

At the scene, a white Toyota Yaris was found with significant front-end damage and a shattered windshield, with strands of the victim’s hair caught in the glass. The driver, Mr. Porntep, 44, was present to provide a statement.

Some distance from the vehicle, the body of Mr. Wing, a worker at a nearby ice factory, was discovered lying on the road. He sustained multiple injuries, including a broken neck and fractured right ankle, and abrasions across his body. Initial examinations were conducted at the scene before the body was taken to Phutthasothon Hospital for a detailed post-mortem.

Mr. Porntep said he had been returning home after picking up his wife from hospital. “I overtook a car ahead and didn’t see the pedestrian crossing because the vehicle in front blocked my view. By the time I noticed him standing in the road, it was too late to brake,” he explained.

The victim had been living at an ice factory, where he had worked for more than 20 years. The owner, Mr. Ratchanon, explained that Mr. Wing was disabled and normally avoided walking on the road due to his mobility issues. “He usually stayed at the shop to help with chores, so it’s unclear why he was out in the street today,” he said.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning the driver further as part of an ongoing investigation.
