Suvarnabhumi Airport Expansion Aims to Double Passenger Capacity

Suvarnabhumi Airport is undergoing a major expansion to nearly double its annual capacity to 120 million passengers, with a new South Terminal and fourth runway in development, aiming for full approval by October. Approximately 70% of the expansion master plan is already complete, and construction of the 12‑billion‑baht East Expansion is set to start in early 2025, reaching completion by 2030. Alongside this, a 3.9‑billion‑baht project to automate baggage systems will enhance efficiency, while Don Mueang Airport is also expanding to handle up to 50 million passengers with improved rail connectivity. These initiatives reflect Thailand’s strategic push to bolster its aviation infrastructure and remain competitive globally.
