An 82-year-old man was killed instantly when his bicycle was struck by a pickup truck on Highway 24 in Surin province.

The collision occurred at around 10.50, on 21 August near the Ban Nong Lek junction in Buachet district. Police investigators, rescue teams and a hospital doctor were called to the scene.

The victim, later identified as Boonlam Yodnuyomma, from Sisaket province, was found dead beside his red bicycle.

Nearby, officers discovered a silver Nissan pickup truck with a damaged left headlight, driven by 33-year-old Sangsarn Kankue.

According to his statement, he had been driving from Kantharalak in Sisaket towards Lahan Sai in Buriram. As he approached a hill on the highway, he noticed the elderly man cycling by the roadside. He claimed the cyclist suddenly attempted to cross the road and pulled out in front of him, leaving no time to brake before colliding with him.

The body was examined at the scene by medical staff before being released to relatives for funeral rites.

Police are continuing their investigation into the fatal crash.
