A major power outage occurred in Phetchaburi on 22 August, after a large electrical transformer exploded at the city’s main electricity distribution station.

The incident, which occurred at the Phetchaburi Power Station operated by the Provincial Electricity Authority, caused widespread disruption across government offices, hospitals, shops and homes. Thick black smoke was seen billowing into the sky as firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the scene.

Teams from the Phetchaburi Municipality Fire Department, Ban Mo Subdistrict, Ton Mamuang Subdistrict, and volunteers from Sawang Sarphet Rescue Foundation worked for around 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control. However, the transformer was severely damaged and is currently inoperable.

Provincial Electricity Authority officials worked urgently to reroute power from other sources to restore electricity to affected areas as quickly as possible. Residents and businesses are being advised to exercise caution and conserve energy while repairs are ongoing.
