The Thai Football Association is facing last-minute turmoil after True BG Stadium withdrew as host for the 2026 AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualification matches, scheduled from 3–9 September 2025.

The AFC had previously inspected the stadium and confirmed it as the main venue, with participating teams in Group F, Malaysia, Lebanon and Mongolia, making travel, hotel and training arrangements accordingly.

However, with just over a week to go, True BG Stadium informed the association that it was no longer able to host the event. This sudden announcement has forced the Thai Football Association to urgently seek an alternative venue and notify the AFC, raising concerns over Thailand’s reputation as a reliable host.

The association now faces a tight schedule to identify a new stadium and secure AFC approval, which may include inviting AFC representatives to inspect the proposed venue. Teams may also need to relocate hotels and training facilities, potentially causing further logistical challenges.

Thailand U23, coached by Takayuki Nishigaya, will face Malaysia, Lebanon, and Mongolia in Group F. The top team from each of the 11 qualification groups, along with the four best runners-up, will advance to the final tournament in Saudi Arabia, scheduled from 7–25 January 2026.

The situation remains fluid, with the AFC yet to make a ruling on whether a venue change can be approved in time for the competition.
