Heavy rain and slippery roads led to a devastating crash in Kalasin province, late afternoon on 22 August, claiming three lives and leaving one person injured.

Police from Mueang Kalasin Station, together with rescue and emergency teams, were called to the scene on the Kalasin–Somdet Road near Ban Khambon, Na Chan Subdistrict, following reports of a car that had veered off the road and plunged into a roadside drainage canal.

Upon arrival, officials discovered a white car severely damaged and submerged in the canal. Three occupants were found dead inside the wreckage, while another passenger was rescued with injuries.

Among the deceased were Mr Mongkol Phanphu, Chairman of the Na Khu Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO), and his secretary, Mr Sim Phonnaku. The identity of the third fatality and the injured passenger has not yet been confirmed.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle driver, lost control on the rain-soaked road, struck a utility pole and then careered into the canal. Rescue workers laboured for over an hour, to recover the bodies in harrowing conditions as rain continued to fall.

Police stated that a full investigation would be carried out to establish the precise cause of the crash.

What was he trying to do, check the topspeed of the vehicle?  Sorry about the passengers.
