The lorry involved, registered in Bangkok, was found nearby with damage to its rear left and indicator.

Local resident Ms. Suthida, 53, told reporters she was awoken by the sound of screeching brakes followed by a loud bang. Rushing outside, she saw the aftermath of the collision, with the car overturned on its side in a roadside ditch.

The lorry driver, Mr. Thosapol, 32, said he had just finished work and was driving home when he suddenly heard a loud crash at the back of his vehicle. “I checked my mirrors before but didn’t see any car behind me. Then suddenly there was this huge bang,” he explained.
