A deadly landslide triggered by Tropical Storm Kajiki struck Pang Ung Village in Mae Suek Subdistrict, Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province at around 02:50 on 27 August, leaving one person dead, another missing and at least ten others injured.

The landslide caused severe destruction, crushing at least five homesand cutting off access routes, hampering rescue and relief operations. Injured villagers have been transported to Khun Yuam Hospital and Mae Chaem Hospital, though the journey has been made difficult by blocked roads.

According to Dusit Phongsaphipat, head of Chiang Mai’s Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, emergency teams are working searching for the missing person while continuing to provide medical aid and relief to survivors.

Local authorities, including Mae Chaem District officials, village leaders, the Mae Suek Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, and regional rescue foundations, are on-site coordinating the disaster response.

Heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Kajiki has already caused widespread flooding in recent days. Officials warn that the risk of further landslides and flash floods remains high as the storm continues to batter northern Thailand.

The death toll from flash floods and landslides in Pang Ung Village, Mae Chaem District, has risen to two, with one 12-year-old girl still missing.

The disaster struck at around 02:50 on 27 August after heavy overnight rainfall triggered flash floods and mudslides, destroying seven homes and injuring ten residents. Local authorities, including the Mae Chaem district administration and Mae Suk Subdistrict officials, are conducting an ongoing search for the missing girl.

Emergency rescue teams have transported several victims to Theprat Wetchanukoon Hospital. Two patients are in serious condition, suffering from breathing difficulties and have been transferred to Chom Thong Hospital for further treatment, while four others are in stable condition.

Medical personnel and community health volunteers are providing immediate physical and mental health support to affected residents. Meanwhile, debris from mudslides and fallen trees continues to obstruct roads and damage vehicles in the area. Rescue operations are ongoing despite continuing rainfall.

Authorities have urged villagers and travellers to exercise extreme caution in affected areas as recovery and search efforts continue.
