In light of recent controversies, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has spoken out against relatives of politicians and government contractors flaunting their wealth on social media. His comments come amidst ongoing investigations into flood control projects that have raised public eyebrows.

Mayor Sotto, in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News, pointed out, "It's challenging because there's nothing wrong with being wealthy if it’s earned honestly. But as public officials, we have ethical codes to adhere to."

He highlighted the conspicuous online presence of individuals connected to questionable contractors. “These people posted their lavish lifestyles themselves, so perhaps they’re seeking attention,” he remarked.

The controversy stems from recent developments in flood control projects, which have seen several social media personalities, often linked to political figures, sharing their opulent lifestyles online. These posts, once admired, are now causing people to question their sources of wealth amid the project scandals.

Mayor Sotto noted that the public is becoming more critical of displays of wealth, especially in light of recent events. He stated, “Now, when we see someone boasting about their travels or luxury cars, it makes us think. These aren’t the values we want to pass on.”

The issues around flood control projects prompted President Bongbong Marcos to order a thorough review of public officials’ lifestyles. This follows his criticism during his fourth State of the Nation Address, where he admonished contractors implicated in the projects, urging accountability and transparency in governmental work.

President Marcos emphasised, “Have some shame over the homes flooded or swept away, and think about our children inheriting debt because some pocketed the funds.”

In response to the public outcry, the government launched “Sumbong sa Pangulo,” an online platform where citizens can report perceived anomalies in the flood control projects directly. This initiative aims to increase transparency and accountability, encouraging citizens to play a role in government oversight.

The investigation continues as both national leadership and public scrutiny place pressure on those involved to ensure integrity and honesty in public service. With the government's commitment to rooting out corruption, the hope is for a more transparent and accountable system for managing public funds.

As events unfold, the public remains vigilant, eager for signs of genuine reform and accountability from their leaders and officials.

Can't be too hard to follow the money.  A bit of effort on this might see some in jail soon.  Or maybe not.
