Immigration police have arrested a 31-year-old Azerbaijani man accused of raping a young Thai woman after meeting her through a popular dating application.

Immigration Bureau Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Phanumat Boonyalucksaid the arrest formed part of a crackdown on foreign nationals committing criminal offences in Thailand. He ordered senior officers, including Pol Maj Gen Pratchaya Prasansuk, Pol Maj Gen Panthana Nuchanart, and Pol Maj Gen Prasat Khemmaprasit, to intensify investigations in Bangkok, a hotspot for both tourists and expatriates.

The case came to light in July when a 25-year-old Thai woman, identified only as Ms B, reported that she had been assaulted by a man she met on a dating app. The suspect, who allegedly introduced himself as Italian, arranged to meet her at her residence in the Din Daeng area. According to the victim, he became jealous after discovering she was still in contact with other foreigners online, and allegedly raped her before fleeing the scene.

Following her complaint, investigators collected forensic evidence and obtained an arrest warrant from the Criminal Court. As the suspect had no permanent address, police launched a manhunt.

In mid-August, immigration officers traced the man, identified as Yousef, to the backpacker district around Khao San Road. After four days of surveillance, they received a tip-off from a local resident who spotted him near the Giant Swing and San Chao Pho Suea Shrine on 25 August. Officers approached, checked his passport, and confirmed his identity before presenting the arrest warrant.

The suspect denied the allegations and requested to testify only in the presence of a lawyer. He has since been handed over to investigators to face charges of rape, an offence carrying a penalty of 4 to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of 80,000 to 400,000 baht.

Pol Lt Gen Phanumat added that if convicted, the man will also be placed on the Immigration Bureau’s blacklist, permanently barring him from re-entering Thailand.

He praised members of the public who provided key information leading to the arrest and urged anyone with knowledge of similar crimes to call the Immigration Bureau’s 1178 hotline.

Just another sleazeball in Thailand, that seems to become a hub for all kinds of morons, and worse.

pretending to be italian because he's ashamed of his nationality?

women should not invite strangers to their homes on the first meeting. girl made a bad decision.

need to take time to get to know the person and only meet in public places.

Why are you assuming he's guilty? her story sounds quite odd. Why would she invite a stranger from a dating app to her home (unless she intended on having sex with him)? why would he care that a girl he just met is still talking to other guys on the app? how would he even find out she did? Right now the only "evidence" is her word. We know nothing about her or him and how long they have actually dated, and we haven't even heard his side (yet?). This could be any one of you who breaks up with a psycho: all she needs to do is file a police report and you're f***ed even if you did nothing. I have literally had to move to other cities or countries when breaking up with some mentally unstable girls. (a couple threatened suicide, one threatened to throw herself off the balcony so they'll blame me, one threw rocks at me and picked up a knife a couple of times, and one falsely accused me of domestic violence that didn't happen - some girls out there are just nuts - especially in foreigner revolving circles!)

Years ago I met a girl on a dating app and she invited me to come to where she lived and stay the night on the mountain near her village (single room for both of us). She made it clear she didn't want to have sex (on her period lol) and nothing happened but that's some serious trust to have with a stranger. This was the far north though and not Bangkok so it's an entirely different culture and people up there.
