Police in Maha Sarakham have arrested a 47-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a teacher four times in front of his young child after claiming he could no longer tolerate being “humiliated” by his neighbour.

The suspect, identified only as Mr Pichai, was detained in Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima, on 29 August following a manhunt. Officers seized a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, two magazines and a black Toyota Vios believed to have been used in the crime.

The incident took place on the evening of 26 August in Ban Hao, Talat subdistrict. The victim, Mr Supot, 46, a respected English teacher known locally as “Kru Keng”, was standing outside his home preparing to play with his child when a car pulled up. CCTV footage shows the gunman lowering his window before firing four shots, striking Supot in full view of his son. Despite being rushed to hospital, he later died from his injuries.

During a police-led reconstruction of events, Mr Pichai admitted to the shooting, claiming a long-standing personal conflict. He alleged that Supot and others in the neighbourhood had repeatedly insulted him, particularly during disputes with his wife, which left him feeling belittled and excluded.

“Humiliation is worse than death. If people had spoken politely, none of this would have happened,” the suspect told reporters. He said that when the victim allegedly mocked him again, asking where he would “find a place to lay his head” after selling a nearby house, he lost control and opened fire.

Family members of the victim wept openly as the suspect was brought back to the scene under heavy police guard. Tensions were high and officers had to calm grieving relatives to prevent retaliation.

Supot’s aunt, Mrs Thongkham, dismissed earlier rumours that the shooting was linked to an affair. “That is not true. He was a good man, generous and caring. He supported his whole family and even helped the suspect’s family. Why did he deserve this? His little boy has lost his father,” she said.

Police Colonel Khraithong Chaising, superintendent of Mueang Maha Sarakham Police Station, confirmed that investigators had tracked the suspect across several provinces before securing a warrant for his arrest.

Mr Pichai now faces multiple charges, including murder, illegal possession of firearms and carrying a weapon in public without reason. Investigators are continuing to examine the full motive behind the killing.
