Police have arrested a 28-year-old Myanmar national accused of drug use, illegal entry and stealing women’s underwear to satisfy his sexual urges.

The arrest was made in the early hours of 31 August at around 02:50 hrs in Ban Thong Sala, Koh Phangan, Surat Thani province. Acting under the directive of the Tourist Police Bureau to crack down on narcotics in tourist areas, officers from Koh Phangan Tourist Police detained the suspect, identified only as “Mr Than”, in possession of methamphetamine and a yellow G-string.

During questioning, the man admitted he had no passport and displayed erratic behaviour, consistent with drug use. Police confirmed he had previously been arrested on 11 August on charges of methamphetamine use and illegal entry into Thailand.

He confessed to recently purchasing 15 methamphetamine pills from a fellow Myanmar national at 50 baht each, consuming three before his arrest. He further admitted that the drug heightened his sexual impulses, leading him to steal women’s underwear from local residences, which he then sniffed to achieve sexual gratification. He told police he had no fixed address, often sleeping in public places and resorting to theft to fund his drug habit.

Police have charged him with possession of a Category 1 narcotic, use of a Category 1 narcotic and illegal entry into the kingdom. He remains in custody awaiting legal proceedings.
