Police are investigating after a newborn baby boy was found abandoned beside a rubbish bin outside a student dormitory in Ratchadaphisek 32, Chatuchak district, Bangkok.

The infant, believed to be just one or two days old, was discovered at around 17.35 on 2 September. He had been placed in a foam box and was in good health. Local volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation assisted in securing the baby and he was taken to a children’s hospital for a full medical check-up.

A university student who lives in the dormitory discovered the baby after hearing cries. She took the child to her room temporarily and contacted police, ensuring he was safe until authorities arrived.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses as they search for the mother responsible for abandoning the infant. Police warned that anyone found guilty of abandoning a child could face serious criminal charges under the law.

Authorities are urging the public to report any information that could help locate the mother and prevent similar incidents in the future.
