A fierce blaze tore through a scrap recycling warehouse in Khlong Luang district, Pathum Thani on 3 September, destroying the entire premises but causing no injuries. Authorities believe the fire may have been sparked by an electrical short circuit.

Police from Khlong Luang station received an emergency call, early evening, reporting a fire at an unnamed recycling yard in Soi Erawan 22, Khlong Song subdistrict. Fire engines from Tha Khlong Municipality, along with rescue volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, were immediately dispatched.

The warehouse, covering about 200 square wah, was constructed of timber with a corrugated iron roof and packed with combustible materials including wooden pallets, fibreglass and large quantities of plastic. These fuelled the flames, which spread rapidly throughout the site.

Firefighters battled the blaze for roughly over 2 hours before finally bringing it under control and preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties. Although no one was injured, the entire stock was destroyed and a four-door Isuzu D-Max pickup truck parked inside was badly damaged.

The shop owner said he had gone to the market when the fire broke out and returned to find his business engulfed in flames. He confirmed that the premises mainly stored recycled materials awaiting resale.

Police investigators have recorded evidence and interviewed witnesses. Forensic officers will conduct a further examination to establish the exact cause, though initial reports suggest an electrical short circuit was to blame.
