An 80-year-old man was killed instantly after being struck by a train while attempting to push his motorcycle sidecar off the tracks in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Sikhiu district on the afternoon of 5 September.

The incident occurred near Ban Saphan Dam, Moo 8, in Sikhiu sub-district. Witnesses reported that the man’s vehicle became stuck on the railway crossing. As he tried to move it clear, he failed to notice the oncoming express train No. 71, travelling from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani, which struck him with full force.

Police from Sikhiu station and local rescue volunteers rushed to the scene, where they found the wreckage of the destroyed motorcycle sidecar scattered across the tracks. The victim, identified as Mr. Buan, aged 80, had suffered fatal injuries, as his body was torn in two by the impact. His remains were later taken to Sikhiu Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The man’s daughter, distraught at the scene, said she and her father had been on their way to sell goods at the local market. She had ridden ahead when her father’s vehicle became trapped on the tracks. “My father got down to push the sidecar, but because of his age and poor eyesight, he didn’t see the train coming,” she said tearfully. “I never imagined something like this could happen.”
