Wow, where can I get such a health insurance?

  • 60 baht water bill? Either I'm being ripped off or Simon isn't showering enough 😊 A dirty 'farang'? 😊 Maybe he uses the shower at the gym and pool. I've seen a few foreigners save money that way.

What does he do in a suburb of Bangkok? Sit in his room on the computer all day?

Without knowing the language and with no real social ties he won't last there long unless he has no other options, but he won't starve.

I pay 30K pa (2,500 THB pm) for 3.5Million THB in-patients + 450K accident cover, no Out-patients.

I’m 59 & am on Pacific Cross “Visa Friendly” policy which I don’t think is available to new entrants but am sure they’ll have something similar.

Edit: Guy in the Photo looks low-mid 50s, when I took my policy out 5 years ago (age 54) it was 24K pa so I can well believe he has a decent policy for 48K pa.

Pretty sure Thai Immigration and TAT will groan after reading this. 'Just what we don't want or need - more of his kind.'

Seriously though, while it's not impossible to live on that amount each month, it's a pretty frugal existence. No girlfriend? No wife? Just sitting in his room or on the beach road eating khaow niow (sticky rice) and moo daeng (barbecued pork skewers) every day? I guess he can entertain himself daily with his WiFi/Internet. Does he walk everywhere, or does the 3,000 include motocy and tuk tuks or his own bike (including phone at probably 500 baht)?

I think you have a boring life if you need more than 45k to spend every month...I don't need to drink every day nor beer or whiskey, I don't need to go to restaurants, foodplaza's are ok too and i don't need a happy ending massage every week and a bargirl...My life is not boring at all and I am very happy.. Don't think that all people live a life as you like

Not sure I suggested any of that. Just wonder how easy or hard it would be to stick within 45k.

I do none of the things you describe (Live with my longterm partner) but still spend more than twice that amount per month and would be bored shirtless if I had to live on less... When was the last time you had a holiday?

After spending 33K on basics like Rent, Electricity, Internet, mobiles etc... I'd be left with 12K that wouldn't cover a decent grocery budget (for 2 people I spend 30K pm, Expensive but GF loves to cook & I eat different things from her because of allergies to Seafood/Fish + I can't stand Chicken, but we eat 95% of our meals at home so it's cheaper than going out to eat for equivalent meals).

I'm not doubting that people can live on 45K & I applaud the ones that do, but not all people who spend more than that are pissing it up the wall in bars, some of us are just living our version of a Happy/Interesting life which for me involves spending more money on decent food/groceries (not much in expensive restaurants, we eat more in Pier 21 foodcourt than we do in other restaurants) & holidays away (Doesn't even have to be overseas, we visit GF's family down South a couple of times a year, Koh Lipe is always a treat 🙂- Just back from a 5 day trip to Koh Larn, I could see our Condo in Wongamat from some of the restaurants we ate in there but it still made a nice change from the norm, getting lucky with the weather always helps).

I can guarantee I would be bored shirtless with your lifestyle, and you might feel the same about mine, To each his own.

Ok.. maybe because i don't need to pay rent and my partner was a Thai cook that we can live with much less. Evenings we eat at home lunches always outside and yearly on big holiday out of Thailand. And we have a big garden where we can spend a lot of time as working in it or barbeque and relax. But as you said everyone can live as he wants. Each to its own

Sounds like a great life 👍🏻, honestly, am really happy for you & wish you all the best… 🙂

If you're of a U.K.  pensionable age the cost of a continually eroding frozen pension needs to be factored in too.

Sounds rather low for a retired farang.

I wonder what Insurance company and what his age is?

$1500/year is reasonable for a 55yo $1 million policy with a $1-2K deductible covering in-patient only.

That’s a crime.  Why does the government do that?

There is 1 thing missing in the story and that is that he has to pay tax over his income in Thailand as he stays more than ,180 days.

This is a thing? I thought it died it's death coz it was too hard to track?

Well, isn't he just living the dream! 🤣

Because they know they can easily get away with it. It's not a crime but it is immoral.

Wifey & me could likely get water bill down to 100/month. Not sure that 1 shower & 1 load of washing per month is hygenic though (need 2 single beds.) I guess we could always bathe & launder in the nearby klong.🙃🙃

Turn off the water unless wetting or rinsing. Don't just let it run the whole time. Get a toggle switch and turn off the refrigerator at night and when it's near empty. Don't leave chargers plugged in when not in use.

Develop a non-wasteful mindset and you will find that your utility bills are not an issue.

Cheers. Not an issue here at all. My mindset is to not be controlled by machinery.🙃🙃

He revealed that his monthly living expenses ranged between 35,000 and 45,000 baht, a figure substantially lower than that of London.

Thatcher resides in a one-bedroom condominium in Nonthaburi, a suburb of Bangkok, for 8,000 baht monthly. The facility includes amenities such as a gym, pool, and sauna at no extra cost. His additional monthly expenses comprise utilities and amenities: WiFi at 1,000 baht, electricity at 1,200 baht, water at 60 baht, mobile and transport at 3,000 baht, and health insurance at 4,000 baht.

Simon highlights food affordability as a significant advantage, with meals averaging 50 baht each. He balances occasional Western cuisine indulgences with cheaper local options. Additionally, his lifestyle includes affordable rates for services: 100-150 baht for haircuts, 200-300 baht for massages, and 210 baht for cigarettes, alongside a regular purchase of beer at 260 baht for three bottles.

Seems to me that Simon´s demands and standards are below par.

Many guys drink a lot so it does not really matter.

That's probably why the story mentions regular beer purchases of three bottles at a time. An odd thing to throw in there, unless it's a Uk thing.

When you are buzzed that 8k room and 50 baht meal seems great, or you just don't notice.

Averaging 30B a month.....three bed house, three showers plus sprinkler system covers one rai (Oct to May only)

Don't wash the car though.

If you pay your 'partner' that person is more accurately called an 'employee'
