Food is cheap if you have a gas hob or air fryer.

Wow, where can I get such a health insurance?

  • 60 baht water bill? Either I'm being ripped off or Simon isn't showering enough 😊 A dirty 'farang'? 😊 Maybe he uses the shower at the gym and pool. I've seen a few foreigners save money that way.

Cheers Brit Man, good shopping tips, if that’s your diet, happy noshing!

I don’t spend much more, have great rented condo , pool, gym, I read a lot , have good tv, I swim every day an hour, I do easy gym, I go to the cinema as often as there are good films showing, I’m not a big eater or drink much, but I have a great little restaurant with a super clean kitchen that does all my favorites without sugar and msg. I walk to the fresh market mornings buy all my fruit , I walk along the prom every evening at least an hour to restaurant and back, see friends, have a coffee . I do much more in Thailand than I would at home at my age 73.
My extras are a week in Bangkok at Christmas and New year, and a trip here and there in or out of Thailand. I don’t have to save, I don’t need to .

Wow. You are really living the dream.🙈

Most foreigners in Thailand are at the same educational and social level as Issan farm girls.

You think being white makes you special in some way?

The expats I've mixed with ...... postman, house painter, carpet layer, waiter, builder, oil worker, soldier ......

Well that says more about you than me I see.

I suppose we all mix in different circles with paths never crossing.

But it's not. it's my Thai adult son's house. I have a big bedroom with ensuite. The house is very clean, we have an excellent maid (her scope includes my room and ensuite and she cleans the kitchen and does it well). M y son's wife does quite a bit of cleaning also, The 2 teen girls actually keep their rooms clean.

So what are you complaining about?

100-150 baht for haircuts,

I go to the local barber once every 3-4months.

Many places have free haircuts once in a while. In Pattaya I saw it Saturday's at 11 at Big C extra.

Are these reliable? Do they throttle speeds after a while, or does full speed last the entire year?

I've never had the urge to live in a small village far from the bright lights. I know it's much cheaper, and you can build a nice place with all the modern cons for a relatively good price. But once you walk out the front (or side) door onto the dirt or potholed soi in the village - there's little to do but watch the soi dogs trot by. I go squirly after just a few days at my wife's place up country - fortunately it's in a peri-urban area and I usually find some excuse to stay in a hotel in the nearby big city 20 minutes away. Yeah, yeah. To each his own - I fully get that.

After 4 months without a haircut, I'm surprised your barber even recognizes you..

Do you believe I look like this only in 3-4 months??

I shave and take a shower daily.

Even though hair style  can change the impression.

Yes, for everyone. It's really generous.

Truly impressive; Free for all...

1900 bt visa annually.  That's obviously worded completely wrong.  1900 dollars,? 1900 pounds,?  etc, etc.  or 1900bt a month maybe,  the only 1900bt i know about is for a 30 day extension and you can't live on them for a whole year.      but 1900 baht for a visa is how they've worded it, but totally wrong.

I am sure many Thai ladies can, & do occassionally cook Western food but prefer to cook Thai food for themselves when in the West. I didn't mention any rating for Thai food. If you think it is overrated perhaps you could start a new poll/thread? Munch....munch....Enjoy.🙃🙃

Things evolve. My Thai wife (dr. of medicicne) lived in Melbourne for more than a decade to study medicine and discovered she liked Aussie food as much as she liked Thai food.  Back in Bkk she cooked 50 / 50 Thai / Aussie meals and from that our only son learned to be a good cook for both cuisines.

Son met a girl at uni and they got a bit serious but she made it plain that she could not eat western food.

Reality was that she had never eaten western food, son loved to cook and cooked often at home, especially after his Thai mother passed away. He was often home from uni much earlier than his gf and he prepared dinner for her expected arrival time. Often it was chicken (western syle, mash and veg and similar. She was hungry she scoffed it all down. she still made some small mention of 'don't like wetern food' but these commenst reduced down to no mentioned at all and then she would ask my son to prepare spaghetti sauces, vegetable soups and more.

Son occasionally mentioned to his gf  'you told me you can't eat western food'. She ignored his comment and quickly changed the subject.

Now, years later, our food at home is 50/50 Thai/western.

After son and his gf got serious her parents asked to visit the family (son/gf/me) in Bkk for one week. GFs mother mentioned many times 'but we can't eat farang food'. First 2 days son bought Thai food outside from good street vendors very close to our condo.

Then his gf asked him to make a good spaghetti sauce with pasta and she indicated she would make 2 salads to go with the pasta meal: som tum and a good mixed western salad, the visitors from essan loved the spaghetti sauce / pasta and salads

Skip 1 day and the visitors asked son to make the spaghetti sauce again. This time gf's mother took notes and she became the spaghetti queen of her village.

The annual retirement extension costs 1,900 baht.  Have you ever been to Thailand?

It's not his house, it's his Thai son's house.  The issues with teen aged daughters in Thailand sounds like the same ones parents in the West have with their daughters, minus the excessive use of toilet paper.

My God man, what did you do to that piece of pork?  It looks like jerky!  The British should be tried in The Hague for their culinary 'arts' 555

Gimp is right.  I said they probably meant the extension but had worded it wrong. Maybe read someone's post before you comment.  it says he gets a visa for 1900, he doesn't get a retirement visa for 1900 does he Gimp! he gets the extension for 1900.   I've been here for 20 plus years but if someone who hasn't ever been here read that,  they might think you can get a visa for 1900 baht and that was my point.

Sorry, didn't mean to be that much of a dick. People use imprecise language, especially around the visa subject. Some posters seem pedantic but it does clarify things.

Just what we need to promote more xenophobia.

Too many of these bull poo merchants on social media peddling this nonsense, which makes me believe they are being actively paid to do so.

The whole you can live in Thailand for £2 a month, including a luxury condo, dining at michellin restaurants, is absurd and downrite fool hardy to stupid people who will believe them.

I notice a few others who have left Thailand now saying they were all working illegally, side hussles to make ends meet despite their social media rhetoric.

1900 baht is the price of a 12 month extension.

Yes, I know that.  My point was the way they worded it,  was the visa was for 1900 baht which it obviously isn't.
