Teak door... hahaa I see Boon Mee has found a new toy and more people are able to experience his unique posting style... grrrrreat :D

You want a sign of a quality poster? He/she's the one saying "Okay, I see what you are saying, maybe you're right about that" They've actually learned something from the forum.

Cdnvic; got to agree with you 100% there :D oh except the bit about Useless, does that still count then? mmm maybe not, see you're only human too :o

just peeked my head in over there. Looks a little bit like the Dark Ages forumwise. Did they issue you a can and some string when you registered?

No. I only got a wheel.

Did you register there, Jettie? Weren't you quoted as one of their most hated TV members once? :o

Sir Burr, no I'm certainly not afraid to say "teak door". Considering I also said that I loathed it, I don't think I'll get banned for advertising it. I just really don't think it's worth advertising at all.

Quality posters? That all has to depend on your personal definition of "quality", I guess. One man's (or woman's) meat is another man's poison.

I had a look ages ago, it's the bargain basement for pond life....... I wouldn't sully my name by adding to their member list.

I must admit, that I'd never been involved in an internet forum before TV. After hearing all these veiled refernces to teak door I went and had a look.

Points. - Forum layout seems to work.

Couple of threads OK. Many copies from TV threads. Heaps of crap threads.

Moderation seems to be fairly sparse.

A little bit more relaxed attitude towards posting.

But best of all........ Jealousy (I suppose) has caused......

The most popular recent threads on that site to be the ones bashing TV.

From my point of view I am loyal to the brands that I like & won't be signing up there.

Don't have enough time anyway. :o

Cheers,

Blaster.

Soundman, it's not new for them to be slagging off TV - it's usual. Many of them have been banned from here.

Soundman brings up a very good point. I have been wasting so much time these past few months on this damm addictive forum. And, from seeing the rest of you I assume the same with you. Is there a Thaivisa-aholics meeting I could attend somewhere? 12 step program?

To quote FS - the first step is admitting it is a problem. :o

Hi - My name is David & I fill in the otherwise idle moments in my day talking to internet personalities on TV.... :D

But where could the meetings be held? Having it here would be like having an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting at a pub!

Here's some shots taken at the last ThaiVisa-aholics anonymous (TA) meeting..

I get thirsty at those meetings. Especially now that the water fountain is out of order!

And just how do you come to the conclusion that it's the bargain basement for pond life? Am I pond life? I post on both fora. Is my name forever sullied and besmirched?

They are different to each other and each has it's strengths and weaknesses. I enjoy both.

Sounds like you are just kissing arse over here, trying to be in with the "in" crowd. Pretty sad really.

I don't have a problem with tv, I can give it up any time I like!

Yo, lighten up SB. People are entitled to their opinion. I restrict myselt to this forum 'cos I spend too much time on-line anyway! Also this one provides all I need from a discussion forum.

Although I am a mod on a classic car discussion forum, so I visit that everyday too!

I've already had a wrist slap for that comment via PM, to which I apologised by return. Likewise, I shall now apologise to you and any other member that reads it who also posts there.

I looked at TD a long time ago and the only names that came up with any regularity during my visit were people that had been banned from here, and the place consisted mostly of flames wars, slagging off each other or slagging off Thais and Thailand in general. Maybe if I had hung around a little longer, I may have found some quality.

If my opinions sound like 'kissing arse' to you, fair do's..... you have the right to your own opinion.

So now it is out in the open..... :o

Do those who have personalities on different forums maintain the same characteristics in their posting & dare I say it, moderation duties by some individuals, or have a completely different approach for different forum material?

Layman speak - are you the same or not? :D

Same name. Same avatar. Same person.

Therefore, from what I have noticed amongst most internet personalities, you are bucking the trend & portray yourself as "real". Good stuff!

Personally, though I find made up personalities funny sometimes, I prefer to think the other "guy" I'm conversing with is "real".

Cheers.

If you compared Internet forums to bands, Thai Visa would be the Beatles or the Rolling Stones and TD would be Grand Funk Railroad or Black Sabbath - without Ozzie Osbourne. :o

to me TD is a better version of bedlam , alot more is allowed to be said ( I mainly read/post in the captains lounge ) , and some of the posters have an excellent sense of humor.

there is the continual petulant rants against ajarn forum mods by a few and mad dogs continual accusations about thai visa mods , but they are easy to ignore/abuse as the mood takes you.

I use a different nick over there as I am weaning my online personae to become more anonymous as it is amazing what google indexes.

I'm on 3 forums (fora??). Different nick on each, but same person/story/personality - so many crossover members realise who I am on each.

I've joined a couple of Thai related forums over the years, and apart from one I have always used the same name (please, feel free to google it, you'll get very bored before you find me)

One is based in the UK and I have had several holiday's awarded to me from there, some justified (I don't suffers fools gladly, and I have a predilection for speaking my mind, that doesn't sit well with some people) I used to be a major contributor there but my post count has dropped drastically over the last few years as I really don't need to know about FLR ILR etc anymore, and the longer I stay away from the UK means I have less in common with those still imprisoned there.

The others are all Thai, one I joined under an assumed name after hearing the place mentioned a few times..... wasn't for me, didn't make a single post and haven't been back since, one I was invited to join by a friend and got bumped up to the second level within a day, it doesn't suit me, i find the subjects discussed are something that I have little knowledge of, I think I have made the grand total of three posts in there (and one of those was directions) A third, the name rhymes with Weak Floor, was perused, didn't join, saw no need to.

The fourth.

Here I am, here I remain.

(That's not 'kissing arse' ..... I just like the place)

I post on both fora, with the same av and nic, like Sir Burr. I just got blasted on the other place by an infamous TV poster for pretending to be loyal to only one place. Another TV poster caught him in his lie. Hey, my nic and av are same same. I ain't hiding nuthin. NR, I joined when I was on holiday and another poster directed me to the site.

It's funny really that folks here know the rivalry between the two sites as this is, in my experience, always posted in the "members" subforum on teak and you need 100 posts to enter. Never mind. I like alot of posters there, too. Many are quick-witted, kind, provocative, creative, and they provide great advice or head slaps as required. It seems to be more self-moderated, and a few jabs here and there are taken for what they are, gentle jabs. A*holes are largely just ignored or beaten up by other members. Not many chickies there, but it's not a misogynist place and I am not a misandronist (thanks, Old Croc! :o ). People sympathise when you have a bad day, show great garden and construction pics, and seem to be judgmental mostly on a "smarten up!" basis. It's like going to a smoky jazz bar while Beddies is like a rock'n'roll haunt.

I love Bedlam, tho. I don't have much time for General or have any new things to add there; some new posters are downright nasty. Bedlam is like home. I do cruise General to pick up strays like Slither who I think will add some rambunctious airspray to Beddies. I remember when Cawboy and Limpy joined (like I'm so ancient here). First, I ignored 'em, but they are so funny you just take 'em into the fold. Many great folks here, and I am chuffed that I can pm a few with personal probs and get steady-as-she-goes replies. I thank you Buds for that.

Which reminds me, where are the new baby snaps of Bud Jr? Feking duty derelict, Bud. OK, if your foot is still infected just get on with it and cut it off.

Thaddeus,

Your apology smacked of arse kissing :D

:o

I'm mostly in the same boat as Tigs: I don't have the time for more than thaivisa (in terms of Thai-related websites).

I joined the Forum t.must not be named, when thaivisa was down for a few days last year.

Made a grand ol' entrance, along with a bunch of others from here, but frankly I didn't spend much more than a couple of days looking at it. Once tv was back online, I came home.

So I guess I didn't give it the time needed, in any new situation, to get used to it and get to know folk there. And, as with anywhere, I'm sure there are people I'd like and people I wouldn't like.

But I do/did have half a thread dedicated to bashing me, by some of the senior members (who seem to think they know me) and certain other ex-members of tv, as well as still current members, so I guess I can remain content.

I think the last time I logged in there was a about nine or ten months ago.

But frankly, the bottom line is that this has become my local (online) pub first. I may visit other pubs once or twice a year and I do like to try to get along with everyone, but I like my local and I've only got room for one local.

Thaddeus,

Your apology smacked of arse kissing :D

Dammit...... I was aiming for patronising ..... must practice that one a little more :o
