Not a big issue.I just make sure my fridge is filled up at any time. But i see some tourists who shaking their heads about this law.

If mom and pop shops sold my brand of whisky I wouldn't be bothered, but only certain supermarkets stock it. so it's a damned nuisance. Especially having to wait until 11am to buy it. The afternoon restriction doesn't inconvenience me because I'm having a nap.

in 25+ years I dont recall ever being refused a beer in a restaurant in the afternoon!

Same experience for me. Between 2pm and 5pm, a local restaurant in Chiang Mai provided you with a coffee mug with your meal, into which the beer was poured, and also provided a waste bucket which was hidden away under the table for the empty bottles. No police ever came in to check and from the street, it appeared I was drinking coffee with my meal. Easy, never any problems in 20 years!

Is alcohol now classified as a disease? I don't drink but that sounds a bit radical.

Perhaps this 'law' is being reinforced for Taksin's benefit. He's behind bars so can legally purchase alcoholic beverages.

What about the already obese people. drinking soft drinks with lots of sugar, or eating cakes etc, etc. Is that a disease also because it is clearly an addiction?

A crazy restriction. Makes no sense.

An antiquated law that needs kicked into touch along with the dinosaurs that keep it in place!

One of the reasons why Thailand is still considered in some sources a Third World Country.

A tad exaggerated  - but not much!

The only reason I've heard for cessation of sales between 2pm and 5pm is to 'protect (prevent) schoolchildren from buying alcohol'. There may be other 'reasons' of which I'm unaware.

If that is the true reason I'm confused why asking for production of a National ID card (bearing date of birth) combined with possible wearing of school uniform would not suffice.

The smart schoolchildren buy their booze 11 to 2 or 5 to midnight.

You can't fix stupid; so it will never go away !

the three-hour daily ban on alcohol sales remains active

It's actually a 14 hour ban, but who's counting?

These reports followed the scrapping of the Revolutionary Council’s 1972 directive, Order No.253, on Wednesday

the provisions are already included in the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act, which continues to enforce the 2pm to 5pm sales ban. The act was published in the Royal Gazette on Tuesday and is scheduled to take effect in early November

So it sounds as though there are no restrictions in effect from now until November? Except that the powers-that-be will say - as they did for weed - "but that's not what we meant!" Because of course the country should be governed by what the authorities "meant", not by what any law actually says 🙄

That is understandable they way some people consume it.
