She was surprised and quickly said 'thers is no such age policy', She went on 'the app is so easy to use and safe and all banks want as many customers as possible using bank apps'.

She apparently had not read their Conditions of Use that was displayed on their website and had to be read before using the site. Unless they have changed since when all of this started it was clearly part of the COD.

  • Banking in Thailand is really getting to be hard work.

  • Maybe try to read the multiple threads already started on that subject, instead of being an ignorant pedant

  • real story is probably .... poor training, or unqualified staff At 71 I opened a new Krungsri account and staff completely set up my banking app, and added my photo for facial recognition require

I asked my Thai daughter in law to check this, she works for Krungsri, branch manager.

There is clearly different understandings here and I suspect different branch implementations.

My wife's high school classmate is a Krungsri branch manager.  My wife questioned her classmate and received confirmation of the >70 policy. However in her classmates case her branch only enforces for new app installations.

The site still offers to sign up but do not know if you still can.

Yes you can still do it.

I changed to Biz Online a couple of weeks ago.

It was a bit of a kerfuffle as their instructions were confusing but I got there eventually

She added that she would ensure all the staff at her branch are not believing there is a max age policy.

Where does she work? i will go there to get my app !!

I knew Krungsri were stopping the use of PCs for banking at the end of September so i dutifully went into my branch to register for a Krungsri app on my phone. The cashier couldn't register me and said it was because i was too old, over 70 !! I couldn't believe it how can you be too old to use an app. How i am supposed to check my balance, make payments/transfers etc.  I have one for my Bangkok Bank account no problem. If that is really the case i will transfer my account.

You can shift to their Krungsri Biz online, if you hold an ATM card, you can register, fully online, no need to visit the branch

Well she should check before opening her mouth.

Here it is again in plain text copied from the Krungsri website.

"The User can apply for krungsri application through the channels specified by the Bank, such as the  Bank’s branches or the Bank’s application installed on mobile phone or tablet that can be connected to the Bank's network. The User must fill out all required information completely and accurately. The basic qualification of the User is to be of age 12 or over but not exceeding 70 years. The registration will be valid when the User receives a confirmation message via e-mail address or mobile phone number registered with the Bank.  "

This is why I never recommend Krungsri to anyone.

It took ages for me to change over to Biz Online because of ambiguous and conflicting instructions.

Everything was done in Thai language so no language translation problems.

I pity anyone who tries doing this using English only

I agree with your post but it was a simple transfer between site for me when they offered it a couple of months ago (all in English).

However I still have a problem (non fatal) on the Biz website with my credit card that I am still trying to resolve.

Just sign a waiver that if you get scammed using the app Krungsri won't need to compensate you

Is this an actual option or just meant as a joke?

What are Bangkok Bank's "serious facial recognition issues"?

Takes 100 gos of winking, smiling, looking sideways before it works.

And you have to take your glasses off, so I have to guess which of the 3 motions they want me to do.

I was in BBL bank yesterday & an elderly Indian man was doing the facial recognition next to me. He kept his glasses on throughout. Turn left, turn right, blink etc.

"Takes 100 gos..."

No, as you well know, it does not.

It should be an option the banks offer, that's the only reason banks are restricting access, they don't want to pay compensation if scammed

Will close account next year.

For day to day payment stuff I still have Bangkok Bank.

For foreign transfer I want to stick to Kasikorn.

Hoping the WISE changes won't go silly.

It can certainly feel like that in my experience! And it would not surprise me in the slightest if banks were to insist on us subsequently updating our facial scans at least once a year so as to cater for the new wrinkles which have appeared on our increasingly furrowed brows in the meantime. All this nonsense would not, of course, have proved necessary had banks opted for ID verification based on fingerprint scans instead!

The BBL facial recognition process sounds sounds a lot more complicated than the Kasikorn process. The KBank process doesn't require changes in facial expressions, you just have keep your face within the screen guideline. It does sometimes object to the background being not suitable or too light and asks you to change the background. Once you get used to fixing that issue, it works fine (for me anyway).

Maybe you could a couple of months ago but no longer. I tried to register for Biz online today. I am 72. I've been a Krungsri customer for many years and use the iPhone banking app practically every day. The Biz site refused me because I'm over 70. Says "You must be 15-70 years old". See screenshot attached. Major problem and presumably they'll kick me off the phone app next time there's a new version or I have a new phone, etc. which will make life next to impossible as the world increasingly becomes phone-based. Crazy.
