Making matters worse, is that he was told to make sure that the target was not a friendly and to take evasive measures, rather than bomb the  Canadian soldiers. The Major instead ignored the directive and launched his attack. Please don't lecture us with an event that has already been investigated multiple times and that has concluded multiple times that the  Liberty event was a genuine error.

 

The USA  provides funds to Israel because it is the only reliable  ally it has in the region. The  9-11  hijackers were Saudi Arabian. The financiers of terrorist  supporters have been Qatar and the Gulf states. The entities which allow Russia to bypass US imposed sanctions are the Arab Gulf states including the UAE, Oman and Qatar. Israel is the entity which provides critical technological R&D and military R&D to the USA. It's medical and general science research is an integral part of US R&D. The day, Israel can no longer provide that knowledge or offer a strategic foothold in the region is the day the USA stops supporting Israel.

That is exactly right.  During the Cold War years, Israel was seen by the U.S. as a counterweight to the Soviet Union's influence in the region.  The U.S. had reason to fear plans by  Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt , backed by the SU, to limit passage of Western vessels through the Suez canal, thereby endangering the supply of oil to some Western nations.  In general, various Arab groups with help from the SU, could topple the traditional ruling families and blackmail the U.S. for the oil it needed to keep the U.S. economy running.  Or shut off oiul completely in an attempt to bring the U.S. to its knees.

 

Push never really came to shove against the U.S. in the Middle East, but if it had, Israel would have been a strong, battle-experienced ally.  It still is today and is a huge factor in preventing Iran from becoming more aggressive and expansionist than it is.  U.S. aid to Israel has been very well spent.

That's true, confirming my contention that Israel isn't really a strategic US ally.  We just have common interests.  Fewer now that the US is energy independent and a net exporter of oil and gas.

Has anyone seen any news that Greta has been released by the Israelis?  When she was detained in June while aboard the Madleen, she was released and deported in less than 24 hours.  Word at the time was Greta doesn't handle jail very well due to her autism and the Israeli authorities were scared she might have a total mental breakdown or even try to harm herself.  The Israelis wanted to be rid of her ASAP.  Maybe the Israeli government isn't showing her so much consideration this time?  

 

I saw on YouTube that four members of the Italian Parliament had been released and were back in Italy, but I haven't seen any other news about releases of detainees.  I guess there were between 400 and 500 this time, so it may take awhile, assuming Israel chooses not to give any of them a jail sentence.

Spain did not have a legal basis to do so. In case you missed it, Spain has a problem with migrants arriving by boat. If Spain had intervened in a legitimate blockade to prevent possible war material to enter a war zone, it would have caused itself some problems. One of them is its failure to stop migrant boats  because it says that it cannot interfere  in international waters. The usual leftist groups in Spain are sympathetic, but the majority of Spaniards are not. They are dealing with the impact of Arab migrants now and their patience is tested everyday in some regions.
