The Israeli navy has intercepted a flotilla headed for Gaza, detaining activists including Greta Thunberg. The vessels, part of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), were diverted to an Israeli port, as they were allegedly violating a lawful naval blockade. The flotilla was reportedly 70 nautical miles from Gaza when intercepted, with GSF accusing Israel of "desperation" tactics.

 

Israel's Foreign Ministry confirmed that the boats were stopped before reaching an active combat zone. Footage showed Thunberg and others being treated well by Israeli forces. Despite claims from GSF of deliberate aggression, Israel maintains the intervention was necessary to enforce the blockade due to security concerns involving Hamas.

The IDF is handling her with kid gloves.  My guess is that if any harm came to her, the Palestinian issue would suddenly stand on the grave of a martyred  little Swedish curmudgeon.  That would be a 200% "own-goal."

So what Sanchez should have said when he made his big macho announcment is "We will send a single boat to accompany the flotilla, but when the Israeli navy actually shows up, we will turn around and tell the civilian boats in the flotilla to just surrender".

In short, it isn't "pathetic" for highlighting Hamas's barbarity or Israel's right to fight back—those are valid.

What's flawed is treating the retaliation as beyond question as comments like this do, as if civilian lives on the other side don't count in the moral math. If peace talks like the recent Trump-proposed ceasefire gain traction, that could be a start, but I won't be holding my breath.
