British Police Gain Broader Powers to Limit Repeat Protests

Police in the UK are set to receive expanded powers to manage repeat protests, as announced by the government, following the arrest of nearly 500 protesters. Senior officers will have the ability to evaluate the "cumulative impact" of protests and may instruct organisers to choose different locations for demonstrations if certain sites experience repeated events. The home office warns that breaching these conditions could lead to arrest and prosecution.

The decision comes in the wake of a deadly attack at a synagogue in Manchester, prompting additional support for 538 synagogues and Jewish community sites across England and Wales. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood emphasised that while the right to protest is essential, it must be balanced with the community’s right to live without fear. She highlighted that recent protests have left some communities, especially Jewish ones, feeling unsafe.

The new legislation will be introduced promptly, with the home secretary reviewing existing protest laws to guarantee they are adequately applied. This review might include powers to ban certain protests altogether. Recent arrests at protests were largely of individuals suspected of supporting Palestine Action, a group outlawed in the summer. Organisers of these demonstrations defended their actions, stating their desire for police to focus on genuine terrorism threats.

In response to Thursday's synagogue attack, the home secretary plans to address chief constables, urging them to use their full authority to handle public disorder. Police forces are also cooperating with the Community Security Trust to offer reassurance to the Jewish community. Furthermore, the Board of Deputies of British Jews has organised a commemorative event ahead of Tuesday’s anniversary of the 7 October attacks in Israel.

Key Takeaways:

  • Police to gain new powers to control repeat protests following recent arrests.
  • Home Secretary highlights the need for balanced protest rights to protect communities.
  • Coordination with Jewish groups intensifies after a synagogue attack in Manchester.

There are no pro-terrorist rallies in the UK.   Nor is there is the Government funding any ‘illegal immigrant luxury accommodation’.   I personally oppose this proposed legislation

Dilemma for the MAGA crowd......authoritarian left wing clamp down crushing free speech........or......prompt action necessary to control unacceptable rioting?

The "dilemma" for the MAGA crowd is oversimplified. They’d reject the UK’s police powers as establishment overreach, not just "left-wing," threatening free speech. They’d support curbing actual riots but distrust selective enforcement, seeing it as targeting conservatives while sparing other protests.

Believe me, this has nothing to do with the pro-Terrorist rallies that occur in the UK almost every weekend; the majority of those attending would vote Labour. This is a cynical attempt to stop protests outside of the government-funded illegal immigrant luxury accommodation and HMOs. Dressing this up in Hamas fatigues is pure political chicanery!

I personally oppose this proposed legislation as it will inevitably be used to suppress legitimate protest.

Expect a lot of 80-year olds in jail for supporting free speech for Palestine Action.

This past weekend a number of protesters were carrying signs that read ‘I support Plasticine Action’.

Palastine Action is banned as a terroist group in the UK so anyone campaigning supporting Palastine Action should be arrested and feel the full force as this party is Banned.

So you think people who are willing to risk arrest are worried about a bit of cold weather.

This law is designed to silence anti government protests.

It's just a convenient time to bring it in right now because it appears to be designed to stop the blue haired Palestinian flag waving brigade.

It isn't.

Israel has to destroy Hamas or the terror attacks will keep occurring.  Because Hamas hides its members among non-combatants,  it is taking a long time to flush them out.
