At least four people have been injured in a shocking stabbing incident at a synagogue in Manchester during Yom Kippur, police have reported. The attack occurred at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, leading to police shooting a suspect. Officers responded swiftly to a call at 9.31am from a witness who described a car being driven toward the public and a man being stabbed.

Yom Kippur, regarded as the holiest day in Judaism, made the timing of the attack particularly harrowing for the community. The incident has heightened tensions and concerns as the public grapples with the aftermath. Authorities have been on high alert due to recent global events, though the motive behind this attack is still being investigated.

In response, Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham urged the public to avoid the area, labelling it a "serious incident." Local police are working tirelessly to piece together the events leading up to the attack, and the injured are receiving medical attention. The synagogue has become the centre of police activities as investigations are underway.

Looking forward, the focus will remain on ensuring public safety while determining what led to this distressing event. Authorities will continue to update the public as more information becomes available, seeking to prevent further incidents. Community leaders have urged calm and solidarity in support of the victims and their families.

Key Takeaways:

  • Four people injured in a stabbing at a Manchester synagogue.
  • The attack occurred during Yom Kippur, Judaism's holiest day.
  • Manchester Police shot the suspect and are investigating the motive.

Burnham: Attacker 'believed' to be dead but says this is 'not confirmed'

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham has told BBC Radio Manchester that “it is believed” that the attacker is dead.

However, he says this “is not confirmed” yet.

Good.

Operation Plato has been implemented.

Car ramming and online attack. Where have we seen that MO before ?

Bomb disposal on scene and reports of " A vest "

The suspect is dead, police sources have confirmed.

The M.E.N. understands he was shot because it was believed he had a device, or devices, on his person.

It is not confirmed whether they were authentic or viable devices.

Sadly 1 member of the public has died and a 2nd is fighting for their life.

  • Popular Post

2 members of the public now confirmed dead.

The man believed to be the attacker was shot by Greater Manchester Police firearms officers and is also believed to be dead.

However, police said it cannot currently be confirmed due to safety issues related to suspicious items on his person. The bomb disposal unit has been called and is at the scene.

Another 3 rounds into his head would have confirmed it.

You are possibly right......but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the alternative.

He was, but Starmer has managed to buy himself some more time.  He also needs to be an MP first.

Enoch Powell was generally thought to be antisemitic, so not sure how he's relevant here!

Possibly the recognition of a Palestinian state by the UK has emboldened , and in their minds legitimised, the nutters to continue their crusade anywhere and everywhere.

I used to live in an apartment that looked on to the back of that place, there was always heavy security even in normal times,

I don't recall Enoch being anti Semitic back in the day. I do recall him rallying against uncontrolled immigration....in those days from former colonies whose values and lifestyle didn't gel with the UK at that time. Particularly Muslims from Pakistan both east and west as they are known at that time

Given that 3 suspected members of Hamas were arrested in Germany yesterday, preparing a terrorist attack.

As Germany has not, and probably will not recognise Palestine as a State. I think the answer lies elsewhere.

The jew haters are overjoyed. Innocent people having nothing to do with the middle east are dead. The UK has been compromised

The fundamentals don't change.

Infidels must be eliminated.

That might be one way of putting it.

The alternative is imo existing anti-Semitism. Recognition of the Palestinian state is not a likely alternative.

Look on the bright side - attacker is a muslim, attacked are Jews - it is jolly diverse!

Whats more, now we have recognised the Palastinian State, we will have someone to make strong representations to!

No doubt that gobby little naive bint Greta Thundberg is even now planning an expedition up the Manchester Ship Canal to bring succour to the bereaved - or perhaps not?

Anything is possible....................it would be stupid to close your mind to the possibility. Personally, I think you are right as I would GUESS that being on the Yom Kippur it had probably been planned for sometime.

It's a tragic incident, devastating for many, I'm sure.

Please be respectful with your comments.

Thank you

Antisemitism.

Import fundementalists and things like this will happen. I wonder if this was an operative. Obviously this is something the CNN or BBC  for example so often sourced on here will not address.

First ive heard anything about Enoch being antisemitic. He was anti immigration, but most people from Caribbean, India and S. Africa.
