October 6, 2025Oct 6 I am 65.....I have a whole mouth full of Crowns, Root Canals, about 5 teeth pulled already in the back, One bridge, with a healthy serving of cavities over the years.. The problems just go on and on year after year..Many many thousands and thousands of dollars have been spent patching holes on my leaky dental ship... I am fed up with the whole dental mess and the cost of it all. I dream of getting my teeth pulled out and getting dentures..But I am reluctant to do it... So anyone who has dentures whats your opinion of them?....I am kind of leaning towards regular dentures because I am not crazy about having a number of metal screws in my jaw... Sure I could keep fighting and possibly last another 4 or 5 or 6 more years with out dentures maybe... I just cant decide what direction to go in? Any Opinions? As most people get older especially after between the ages of 60-70 its pretty common for dental problems to increase quite a bit....

October 6, 2025Oct 6 I lost most of my teeth in my 20's, so I've had a full top set for over 50 years, bottom set I have 2 teeth on the right, one is a gold crown, great of have or 2 back teeth, preferably on both sides, helps to anchor the bottom denture. I've had around 5 sets over the years, last set 4 years ago on the NHS UK cost about 200 quid, once you get used to them there great, easy to clean as well.
October 7, 2025Oct 7 5 hours ago, still kicking said: To costly You're correct in that implants are costly, however since they provide such an important function I disagree with the use of the word too, as in too costly. When I first meet my GF was missing three molars. What overwhelmingly convinced me that the only way to go is implants is the idea that a bridge basically requires destroying two adjacent good teeth in order to support a bridge. Regarding the OP's question, I'd add that my father failed to properly take care of his teeth so in his mid forties he required a full set of dentures. The whole incident was one of his big regrets in life.
October 7, 2025Oct 7 Had my top teeth removed at 21 after continual problems and fitted straight away with a denture. Ate a hamburger the following night and have had very few problems over the years. That was 56 years ago. One of my best decisions. I did get an oral surgeon to do the work.
October 8, 2025Oct 8 I had a tooth removed last year and enquired about an implant. My dentist asked how old I was. I told him I was 69 and he hesitated and said, well it's up to you. I think you reach an age where it's the tipping point whether it's worth all the hassle and cost. I decided against it as it was a back tooth and doesn't show in my smile. If I need one for cosmetic purposes in the future I might be persuaded.
